gnarly Posted September 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2006 I will be traveling on the 3-night PNW cruise on the Mercury in a couple weeks. It departs Seattle and travels to Vancouver and Nanaimo before returning to Seattle. I was wondering if anyone has taken this cruise or one similar. If so, here are a few questions: Are there any formal nights? Do they have the same dinning room menu as longer cruises except they pick specific days and serve that menu? Any other tips about this cruise would be greatly appreciated! I am from the PNW so I know what to expect from the weather and the destinations, but I have never been on a cruise for that short amount of time. Thanks, Carly
Andy&Mary Posted September 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 24, 2006 Here's a review from the 9/15 cruise; the OP answers a lot of questions and provides great details. Mercury PNW 9/15/06 Impressions
Tracyr Posted September 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2006 Are you on the Oct 6th sailing? If so there is a roll call for this cruise on the roll call board. I am among a group of 38 doing this cruise. We do a short cruise like this every year. There is a formal night on this short sailing which is unusual. It is the second night. Otherwise these three day cruises are pretty simular to the longer ones other than maybe less activities.
bububr Posted September 24, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2006 My husband and I (still sounds strange ) were married last year on this itinerary in Nanaimo. ( unable to do so in the US:( , but happily together for over ten years:) ). The menu is the same as for all cruises, I can't remember which nights. the exception is that there IS a formal night (#2) and we were not offered lobster. Also we we received a note from Captains club letting us know that for a short crise the ammenities would not be present. However we had the BEST of times, met the BEST people from the PNW and still keep in touch. We are actually pondering doing it again next year. We love the Mercury and the staff. ( Especially the current one ). Hope you have as much fun on your cruise as we did! Dave:eek:
mlmagic Posted September 25, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 25, 2006 Also we we received a note from Captains club letting us know that for a short crise the ammenities would not be present. Was wondering what ammenities you are referring to...I hope you still get all the good stuff of a longer cruise...shows, food, cocktail music...could you elaborate:) thanks
poetic license Posted September 25, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2006 Lysa, Those "ammenities" are the little cabin perks. No bottle of bubbly, etc. Nicki
jb_yvr Posted September 26, 2006 #7 Share Posted September 26, 2006 I was on the Mercury last week, and is going again on 6 Oct. There is one formal night - inbetween two casual nights. We got served lobster and baked alaska on formal night (if you choose to have it). The food is pretty much the same as on longer sailings - very few activities -I guess as there are no sea days. Take warm clothes and keep in mind this is the start of the rainy season - so if we get any sun that will be a big bonus. Also, avoid the valet parking at Pier 66 in Seattle at all cost unless you want to get old quick. The service is beyond dreadful. I will not be lured into the 'cruise parking' area of the parking lot again - just go park the car yourself and carry your suitcase yourself. It should be light seeing that it is only three days. If you are Canadian - be prepared for third class treatment at checkin in Seattle. You need to go to a seperate checkin line - even if you have a suite or CC cabin or Elite status. They will let you bypass the line - but escort you to the far corner of the room. Last time they totally screwed up our credit card info - so if you are on the ship and keep getting tree mail (a notice on the door) saying that if you want to settle with cash... - big warning sign - go to the front desk and ask them to redo your credit card info. Nilla Posted September 26, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2006 Wow Jb_yvr that is crazy that us Canadians get treated differently. When we went out of LA in January we got to go on with all the US Passngers! So you had so much fun you booked again or have had the 6th booked for a while?
