yogajo Posted September 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2006 We have never been scuba diving --- "snuba" sounds like a good way to begin. Does anyone know how to find a company in Grand Cayman that offers snuba? We would rather avoid the excursions offered through our ship. Is snuba the same thing as a discovery dive? zydecocruiser Posted September 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2006 Kirk Sea tours is the only Snuba operator that I know of in Grand Cayman and they are under contract to the cruise lines (they won't let you book directly if they think you are on a cruise ship). http://www.kirkseatours.com/ http://www.snuba.com/ Discover diving is an introduction to scuba and is different from Snuba. Discover diving will have some instructional training and you will actually be using scuba gear, but will be limited to how deep they will let you go. To the casual observer, the main difference is that in Snuba the tank is floating on the suface and their is an air hose leading down to you and in Scuba, you carry the air supply with you. Arubalisa Posted September 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2006 IMHO, SNUBA is more restrictive. My 10 yo dd who has some special needs, did a Discover Diving class last week in Aruba and did just fine. You will go into the swimming pool after your initial training so see if you are comfortable with the equipment before going out into the open waters.
