Mariner cabin selection

My husband and I are considering taking the Mariner to Alaska next summer.
The lowest-priced cabin (category H) is right next to the casino. A category G, five cabins away, is $238 more. Would either of these be OK, or should we consider a higher category cabin on a different deck? Thanks so much for any advice!

Hi,

We just took the Mariner to Alaska mid-June and had cabin 745 - category G. It was about 5 or 6 cabins down the hall from the Casino and I also was wondering if we would hear noise or smell smoke from the Casino. But it was a fantastic location.

In fact, any of those first 4 or 5 H cabins would be great and will save you dollars. There was no noise or smoke that we ever detected.

It's a good midship location and Deck 7 is only one story up from all the public areas and dining, etc. Plus, the casino and shops are not far away. Plus, the library and game tables are below these midship cabins (on deck 6), so there should not be any noise below you. You are also closer to the water than the upper decks. The only thing is - there is no laundry room on deck 7 if that is important to you.

You will have a great time on the Mariner. We loved it! And Alaska is great!!

klauer -

Forgot to mention, our cabin 745 was starboard side, not portside, as is the Casino. So we were a teeny bit farther away from the Casino than the portside cabins are. Just wanted to mention that.

Hi klauer,

My wife and I were just on the Mariner in May 2004. Our cabin was not in the area you described, however, we were in the casino one or two evenings........as to noise in the casino, I found the casino actually to be usually quiet.....as to smoke, we were all over the ship during our week and I can't say that I ever detected ANY issue with smoke smell anywhere on the ship (and I don't like staying in a room where a smoker has been....I think I know what you mean.....it was not an issue at all for us at any time).

You have selected a first class cruise line. The Mariner is a great ship.....you will be proud! Alaska will be a great cruise and memory for you, especially having your suite and balcony.....much of the scenery is truly jaw-dropping.

The balcony with your suite on this trip will make a huge difference to your trip and will be a joy to you. I cannot say enough about having a balcony. The staff on this ship is so excellent and kind........

I hope you have a great trip! (I am jealous....) Let me know if you have any questions on port tours or the ship.

There is a gap between the Casino and the rooms - with rest rooms and passageways, so you are not 'right next to' the casino, in any case. We just returned from a delightful cruise on Deck 7 [772], convenient to restaurants, computer room, a couple of lounges, etc. We were further back, so we wouldn't have heard noise if it was there. I'd take the cheaper room in a minute. The equivalent rooms on 8, 9 or 10 were no better, at a higher price.

We were in 735 and considered it a great location. Before being on the ship I wondered if we would hear the door that separates the public area from the hallway of suites but we never heard it and we were just the third suite back. As Ginny and daw6id stated deck 7 is wonderfully convienent to the restaurants, library/computer room and theater. We always took the stairs for everything except for some of our trips up to the Observation Lounge or La Veranda. (That helped burn up a few of the extra calories we were consuming every day!)
