Vancouver-Seattle Car Rental One Way!!

we are thinking of doing the mini cruise on the NCL Pearl in May. It goes from Vancouver to Seattle. Flying into Vancouver is very expensive where flying into Sea-Tac is cheap. Has anyone rented a car and drove it one way over the border? We all have passports so that is not an issue.

We just did it last week. I rented from Avis in Vancouver and dropped off in Seattle. Easy as pie. At the border they didn't even ask about the car. We just showed our passports and were on our way. There was a little backup at the border but not bad. We crossed on a Sunday morning so the traffic was fairly light. I'd say it took us between 30 and 45 minutes to get across. No problem with the car at all.

We did exactly the same thing in 2002 for our Alaska cruise. Be sure to check on the drop off charges. We found that the traditionally cheaper rentals had large one way charges and ended up using Hertz which had none. Also, we had ordered the smallest 4-door and ended up with a mini SUV with a GPS - what fun! It was a Vancouver car and had to go home. the counter guy really pushed the upsell and we were so glad we had refused.

USE AMTRAK we did norweigan sun to alaska, started out in vancouver ended in seattle. flew in and out of seattle. the train out of seattle around 730 am was great one of the many highlights of the trip traveling the coast by small fishing towns and harbors $33 with AAA discount. this past may we did island princess pacific coast ending up in vancouver we did amtrak return taking the last train(they do run buses (ugh) earlier in the day) same cost but reverse route no hassles thru customs....about $30 for cab from train to sea-tac airport... by the way you do save big bucks on r/t air out of sea than yvr

We took the bus and actually enjoyed it. Only bad part was when we had to take all of our luggage off the bus and take it inside through customs and then drag it back on the bus. But it was a very relaxing ride and we got to see the countryside and if we had taken the train it would have been dark and we would have missed seeing the scenery. Each to their own but we would take the bus again given our choice.

????? Yeah, the train leaves early, but the sun comes up pretty quick! And the tracks run RIGHT along the coast for quite a long time, and it's GORGEOUS.

You show p'ports to the Amtrak people, fill something out during the journey and hand it to the conductor, sit back, relax...watch the long lines of cars at the border as you zip by, and then get to the station, get your bags, stand in a fairly short line and get processed into the country! Super-easy!
