traveler525 Posted September 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Saw in an earlier post that one can receive a tax refund at the airport when one leaves Sydney. But, we are leaving on the cruise ship, and flying home then from Auckland. Where else to do the refund? Debbie
Flipper133 Posted September 28, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2006 Debbie, You can get a refund on the GST (Goods and Services Tax) at the Cruise Line embarkation under what is called the TRS(Tourist Refund Scheme). Go To: http://www.customs.gov.au/SITE/page.cfm?u=4646 where you will find all you need to know. Essentially you need to spend at least A$300 in the one shop and you must either carry it or wear it as you embark. You need to actually show the customs people the item(s) so no good putting them in your luggage that is taken on board by porters. For convenience I would suggest you shop at one of the so called "Duty Free" shops that abound in Sydney. They know the ropes and can tell you anything else you need to know. GST in OZ is 10% so if you spend $550 you will get $50 back. cheers
roberts2005 Posted September 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2006 As a follow up. Can you do this at each port or must you do it where yo embark? (Sydney)
