C-U-ONBOARD

Recommended Posts

I am a very short gal, and I pretty much only wear high heels. I do plan to bring a pair of trainers for walking around at the ports and the gym, but my question is how bad is it walking around on board the ship. I have heard mention of it being slippery etc, but should I rethink my shoes or will I be fine in my heels the while on board...thanks in advance...

You can go shoeless. They have the topless decks, so why not go shoeless?

Seriously, it can be slipperly out on deck only if it is wet due to rain, fog, cleaning, etc. Most of the time it is dry as a bone.

First cruise, huh?

Most of the time, you are, basically INDOORS...

Take a look at those deck plans: Dining Room, Showrooms, Lounges and Bars, the hallway to your cabin, etc.

Pretty much only the pool deck, jogging track deck and a promenade, if any depending on the ship...

The "water line" is way down beneath the lower decks while that pool deck, again depending on the ship, is 10 or 11 decks above...or maybe 100-120 feet above the surface of the water...

If there's any water on the deck up there, it's splashing out of the pools or jacuzzis...or from rainy or foggy weather...

If there's rainy weather, you're probably not out at the pool anyway...

And most of the time you're at the pool or jacuzzi, hopefully tou're not wearing high heels, right?

IOW, don't worry about it...

Save the shoes for the dining room and the Casino. You are on vacation, break out the sneakers and sandels. Don't be concerned about your height. You are who you are. 90% of the people I meet are taller than me. no big deal.

Go for comfort, not style.

Mrdood........in many of your replies I've noticed you are just short of nasty and pretty darn sarcastic. You hae to realize that many people are new to CC and are not familiar yet with all the threads........you do not seem to be a very welcoming participant. If you want to redirect people or actually "help" them then could you please "tone down" your attitude especially for brand new folks! Actually I am pretty new myself and it took me a while to get comfortable about getting around all the different topics and forums.

To cut to the chase...........play nice!!! We want more people to join CC not get turned off and go away!

Sorry, missed the words "Host" next to your name:rolleyes:

You are amazing that you can interpret emotion from an internet post (insert sarcastic tone). My style is to be direct and honest, sorry that it does not work for you, many others have praised and appreciated that style on this board, I will certainly register your vote (minority).

I very carefully took the time to look up the link, rather than just tell them they were posting incorrectly, how much more helpful could I be??? How will people learn where to post if they are not directed?

Have a great day!

Im short to and I love my high heels. At night is really the only time that it is slippery. Wear the sneaks at night and slide around on the decks with everybody else, skip the stilettos after dinner, unless you plan to stay inside. You wouldn't want to ruin your cruise by spraining your ankle the first night on board all for the cost of some higher then the sky heels!! lol! I have great balance because im a dancer and gymnast, so i did wear the heels out and about at night but i wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, especially if you are drinking, the seas are rough (ie breakers), or you don't wanna break an ankle!!!!

Good luck and enjoy the life of fabulous heels!!!!:) :D !!

I will have to disagree with you there. I think he has been pretty mellow the last couple days. See what vacations do for you LOL!

Actually, I do have a problem with Carnival's floors in two areas - it is slippery if there is water around the pool. But my main concern.. in the buffet area, I have slipped on the tile multiple times on multiple ships, including a couple falls over my six cruises. Thank goodness none of them harmed me worse than a sore ankle or knee. I don't know if they use the same tile on all ships or not, but I have learned to walk on the carpet unless I have sandals or tennis shoes on. This is very annoying and unsafe. I only have this problem in the tile section (walkways) of the buffet areas.

I have found the floors slippery on every ship on every cruise line. They keep them very polished, so it can be slippery even if the floor is not wet. (I'm referring to the inside floors that are not by the pool and spa where they might obviously be wet.)

Slippery spots can appear in the most unexpected places. Rough weather can also make it difficult to walk in flats let alone heels. I say leave the heels for dressing up and take sandals and trainers for the rest of the time.

Muffy, it would be nice if everyone "played nice", but this IS Cruise Critic. Nothing has changed in the years I've been here and I don't expect they will any time soon. Just let it roll off. There are over 100,000 members here. Either they'll stick around or they won't. Hopefully our newer members will stick around. A board is quiet without it's newbies!

OK dood.........didn't mean to ruffle all your feathers. But once again in your reply .........short ....curt........less then nice. But silly to continue this...........just don't want new people to be made to feel dumb or that they can't make any mistakes without being picked out. Nope your right , I am NOT a host but I am , as you are, allowed to voice my opinon and make suggestions to continue to improve and make CC a great resource for everyone, new bees and experienced participants.

In all fairness, you are correct, you did send her the thread so she could ascess it easily, so I guess your not all bad. I am here to make friends not enimies , so I apologize if I was too critical.

Have a great night!

Just curious I noticed your picture is fighter jets, are you in the service , do you fly or just someone who admires it. Just asking because my son is presently in training in Pensecola for F18s. :)

To the OP - Bless your little heart; just because you're short (I am too) doesn't mean you have to wear heels on a cruise. My goodness, dear, save them for evenings and be comfy (and safer) in your tennies or deck shoes for a cruise! You'll probably enjoy yourself much more. I'd sure hate for your wonderful vacation to be ruined due to slipping or falling in those heels!

Flip flops are all you really need!! Since there are so many kinds out there these days you can find dressy ones and super casual ones and plain ones , most of the time at great prices........my kids make fun of me because I must have 50 pair in my closet........of course that number has decreased since we bought a "puggle" that love to chew flip flops!!! LOL

I am only 5ft 3 and I have no problem just wearing flip flops.........relaxing!!!

I confess...I look like a centipede with all the shoes I carry on a cruise. I am 5' 9" and I still wear my heels (although they have gone from 3" to 2" due to age).

Since you are on a moving ship, slick spots can appear and there a lot of walking from one end to the other (and back...and back)....save any "uncomfortable heels" for formal nights and only wear the comfortable ones the other nights. During the day....be brave and wear flats or wedges!!

I would agree with the lower heels, brought the high heels on the first cruise and the high glossed floors were very hard to walk on. held on tight to DH, we looked so "cute" no one realized I was hanging on for dear life! Be comfortable. Remember "the ship moves" alot different than walking on land.
