Now that Canada and the US will be switching to DST earlier next year (March 11/07) does anyone know how this will affect ship times in the Caribbean?? I know the past three spring break, the CB princess falls back 1 hour the first night to be on time with Port times, but that was prior to the spring switch to DST. So will we actually be 2 hours ahead of the Caribbean now??

If a Caribbean port does observe DST but doesn't change along with the US and Canada to the new dates, they would be different than they used to be. But it would just be that there would now be the one hour difference for those ports during the days between the two start dates instead of being the same like it is now. For ports that doesn't observe DST, they wouldn't really be affected.

Example 1 - Grand Turk does observe DST and they are in the Eastern Time Zone. So currently they always are the same time as US and Canadian cities in the Eastern Time Zone. If they don't change the dates they start and end DST, then the US and Canada cities in Eastern would be an hour ahead for a few weeks in March and an hour ahead for the first week in November. When they start DST using the old dates, they would then be the same time as Eastern again.

Example 2 - St Thomas is in the Atlantic Time Zone and doesn't observe DST. So during the winter they are one hour ahead of Eastern. When we switch to DST in US/Canada they are now the same time as Eastern. The dates we switch doesn't affect the difference, just when it happens.

I'm sure this is WAY more answer than you wanted but...... ;)
