LILynn Posted October 27, 2006 #26 Share Posted October 27, 2006 We were on the Grand Princess last month and it was a trip of a lifetime. We started in Rome - then Monte Carlo, Florence, Naples, Santorini, Mykonis, Athens, Kataklon (Olympia), Corfu, Kusadasi (Ephesus - Turkey) and lastly Venice. I loved every port we were in - they were all amazing. There is way more than you can possibly do in one day in each port. The hardest thing for me was trying to fit everything I wanted to see and do in. It just comes down to prioiritizing and knowing I can go back again soon. I think my favorite ports were Santorini and Venice. Santorini was just magical - the views are incredible. Venice is unforgettable - I cannot wait to go back and wander the city again. I am sure that no matter where you go it will be fantastic. Lynn
ricntina Posted October 28, 2006 #27 Share Posted October 28, 2006 MsTravel: Fort Worth here. We are also thinking of doing the Med in 2008 on RCCL. Have been told the itineraries will be out after the first of the year. Who knows? We might be traveling together. Rick
Kenwoody Posted November 1, 2006 #28 Share Posted November 1, 2006 We were on the RCCL's Brilliance starting October 2nd this year, the weather was wonderful. Only rain was on a sea day. We were told when we tried to book onboard for 2008 that it would be April before we could.
Cruiselover1215 Posted November 7, 2006 #29 Share Posted November 7, 2006 As soon as the 2008 Med season opens up I want to book a cruise. I've been throughout Italy. What I'd like to hear from other cc'ers are some of the other locations I think I would be interested in. Who can tell me about: Barcelona, Spain Greece Turkey Dubrovnik Alexandria I talked to my nephew since he has been to Egypt 3 times & he said that Alexandria doesn't have the large pyramids.:( Has another stopped in Alexandria & been able to take an excursion to the pyramids? HUNNY BUN Posted November 7, 2006 #31 Share Posted November 7, 2006 My Med. cruise is not planned until 2010, when I turn 50, but I'm hoping others will join me, so I need as much info in advance that I can get so they will know what kind of price they are looking at. How early do cruise schedules get set? What are the airfare prices like? Where do you recommend as the best starting city? What month do you think the weather would be the most pleasant? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
EASYTRAVEL777 Posted November 8, 2006 #32 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Hunny Bun - that is easy. HUNNY BUN Posted November 8, 2006 #33 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Thank you so much for the info! The prices don't sound that bad at all. I can't wait for the cruise, but I CAN wait to turn 50!! I sail for the Mexican Riviera in 71 days, so that'll have to do me for a while.;)
ricntina Posted November 8, 2006 #34 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Easy Travel: Are you saying $375.00 each for round trip air fair? I know that November is cheaper, but what Airlines are you using. Rick
ricntina Posted November 8, 2006 #35 Share Posted November 8, 2006 Easy Travel: I went to the Celebrity web site and they show $1309.00 for an inside on the date you are sailing. Where in the world did you get a figure of $750.00 Rick
EASYTRAVEL777 Posted November 9, 2006 #36 Share Posted November 9, 2006 Hi Everyone, We are getting a group rate of $750 (really $738.50) per person from my TA. A lot of people have booked so far. The flights are $750 per person. The tours are approx but close $170 Rome $100 Naples $60 Ephesus $75 X 2 Istanbul $50 Alexandria $100 Hotel Rome 2 nights $100 Hotel Athens 1 night I have not had time to update my web site, but you can get an idea at www.easytravel777.com The guides that I am using are highly rated on CC and other sites. The costs are per person with groups no larger than 15 with their own private guide. Rome and Naples are groups of 6-8. So if you join us Nov 10, 2007 or choose another sailing, it can be done very reasonably. You just have to do some research.
EASYTRAVEL777 Posted November 9, 2006 #37 Share Posted November 9, 2006 ricntina - By the way, I have said it many times, with few listeners. Most TA's and the cruiselines will only quote you the advertised price up front. When was the last time you bought a car for the sticker price? TA's can sell at a lower price, they just can't advertise it. Happy Shopping!
ricntina Posted November 9, 2006 #38 Share Posted November 9, 2006 Easytravel: Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. We have found out in our searching that sometimes you get a better deal with TA's and sometimes by making direct contact. It seems to work both ways. vlnovak Posted November 10, 2006 #39 Share Posted November 10, 2006 i woud sujest that you book tour guides for the cities tht are far from the port. We used Guido in Florence and Claudio in Rome. It is so worth the money as they get you tickets and put you right up in line and you will see twice as much as looking all day in your map to find places. Plus you will be less likley to get pickpocketed as you can lock your stuff in their car. They can get you very close to the places you need to be so you will waste little time walking from the tour bus.

rich58 Posted November 13, 2006 #42 Share Posted November 13, 2006 Our cruise will be in June & one of the stops is Alexandria. We have already booked a private tour with DeCastro Tours to go to Cairo to see the Pyramids, Sphinx & Valley Temple. We are in port from 7am to 10pm. They pick us up (a/c van) as soon as the ship clears & make the 3 hour drive as part of a caravan. Also included is the museum, lunch, a camel ride & an escort to the bazaar. They will have us back to the ship at 8pm. Our group is only 3 and we are paying $80pp. It might be less if your group is bigger - but I find it very reasonable in comparison to other port tours. Hope this helps - we're looking forward to this port more than any other right now! Sherryl Hope this helps SammyJo Are you on the RCI Legend of the Seas next June 12th? My wife and I are booked for that cruise and would be interested in sharing a van for the Pyramids, Sphinx & Valley Temple tour. Please let me know. I would love to be able to take the tour you are taking in Alexandria, :) Sammy Jo. Did you have to pre-pay. Or do a deposit. Can you give me anymore information on it. I will email DeCastro tours also and see what I can find out. I know we will be in port from 7am till 10pm. I don't know about the camel ride though but it may be fun. I am 68 and my friend that is going with me is in her mid 50's. Thank you for all your information.
