Conquest review 9/24/06 sailing

The cruise was fabolous. The Conquest is a great ship. O.K. here we go!

We used E-Z parking. Only $50 for the whole week, only about two blocks away from the port. Transportation to and from the port. Not bad.

EMBARKATION: Was not hellish like a lot of people said it would be. We got to the port about noon and was on the ship about 1:15-1:30ish and this ship is big(real big). Got on board (NNNIIICCCEEE) and the first thing we did was get some Mie-Tie's. And they were good. Went to our room 1042 on the panorama deck. Excellent choice for us. Close to the pools, spa, the lido deck etc. The room was already ready when we got there, cool. Walked in to find a towel puppy on our bed(so cute). Walked on the balcony, did our wows then started to unpack the luggage we carried on. Spend no more than 15mins in the room, oped the door and saw the rest of our luggage sitting outside of our room. That was quick. Did the muster drill which was not pleasent but necessary. We were on our way about 5pm.

DAY AT SEA 1 & 2: We were pooped from all that exploring (big ship) and eating earlier. If you are trying to watch your figure, FORGET IT!!! Hang that up right away 'cause food was good. Your eating even when your not hungry. Went to sleep about midnight. The weather was fine until we hit a bad storm. I mean a bad one. The strom woke me up with the lightning striking & thunder. But the Conquest just went threw it like it was nothing. Little vibrations & little rocking. Woke up, went to eat breakfast, good also. Went swimming, slid down the water slide, fun. Did a little shopping, more eating & drinking. We had a Margi Gras party which was real fun. Todd the cruise director said that was by far the most energy he had in a crowd in a while. He might say that on every cruise but we were making a lot of noise that night. Blood Power the band played well. Now we was ready for Jamaica.

Montego Bay: Woke up to see the island show up in the mist. WOW!! Beautiful to see mountains with clouds shooting off the tops of them. We went to Sunset Beach Resort. Good choice. Only a couple dollars for a taxi and only about 5mins away from the port. $40pp pays for everything- snokeling, paddle boats, water slide, pool, drinks, food etc. The food

OH MY! Jerk chicken, baked fish, rice with sweet peas, grilled pork sausage, fresh vegetables etc. I can go on & on. The beach was gorgeous. A light greenish blue color with the mountains in the background. NICE. Went back to the ship tired. Went to some of the shows, time for bed,now onward to the Caymans.

Cayman Island: Showed up there with 3 other cruise ships trying to find a parking space. We went to Seven Mile Beach. In a word beautiful! Crystal clear water. WOW! Rented some jet skies, MAN!

It was the shirt > without the "r" (I'm going to see who got that!) . The beach was nice but we had to pay for everything, chairs, umbrella, snokeling etc. They nickel & dimed us for everthing so we left to go shopping. Went to Margaritaville. By the way SUCKED. Check this- Sat down and ordered drinks, cool. Got our drinks, cool. Ordered appertizers, cool. Just chilling waiting for our food and just look and see a couple sit down next to us then a family of 4 sit down about two tables away from us, cool. Still waiting for the appertizers to come. The couple and the family of 4 got their drinks, appertizers and their meals while we are still waiting for just nachos and quesidillas appertizers, not cool:mad: . 55 minutes had pasted before the food came. Looking at my watch the time said about 2:45pm. Now we have to rush and eat and try to get back to the ship around 3 ish. The ship leaves at 4 and the line to get on the boat was wrapped around the corner. Then they had the nerve to add $8 in tips to the bill which we do not pay. I pay for service, good service and they got 2 thumbs down. I'm sure people have a good time there but we didn't. OH WELL! Off to Cozumel.

COZUMEL: Was the best port out of all three. We had a blast in Coz. We went snorkeling near Cakkanaab (hope I spelled it right) and had so much fun. The water was the bluest water I have ever seen. Swimming with the fish was cool. My girlfriend was with me then we saw a parrot fish, a hugh parrot fish. At least 4 to 5 feet long. My girlfriend saw it then hot tailed her a$$ out of the water. It was like the scene from the movie "The Toy" starring Richard Prayor. I couldn't stop laughing. It was funny(love ya babe):D . After that we went to eat some Mexician food then shopped some more:eek:. After that we took a taxi to Paradise Beach. Real nice but to crowded. Left there and went to Playa Uvns. Only about 200 yards form Cakkanaab. It was beautiful. Only about 10 people and about 3 in the water. Nice & inclusive. Time to go. Darn it!

LAST DAY AT SEA: Was just for relaxing under the sun, chilling, drinking some Mie-Tie's and more relaxing.

DINING: The food was good overall. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The formal night was nice to see your fellow shipmates all dressed up, cool.

STAFF: Loved them! By the second day they were called us by ouy first names, cool. Our stewart was real cool. Todd Witter was great. Dinner staff was real friendly. Even the fellow passagers were real friendly & nice. The night club is a sight to see. T.V.'s everywhere. EVERYWHERE! We had a good time there too.

DISLIKES: The only thing I dislike was the arcade. The games wasn't working well and kept taking my money. But I got it back. Lost some money in the casino but it was just bad luck. But the casino was still fun.

DEBARKATION: The wait wasn't that long but trying to find your luggage then a porter then wait in a sea of people with all their luggage. When you get to the port from the start of the cruise the porters took your luggage to your rooms. But after the cruise everyone has their luggage, ALL OF IT. Don't worry anyone who is going will find out what I'm talking about. Those who have gone know exactly what I'm saying.

OVERALL: 5 stars for the Conquest. I would do this cruise again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone. A cruise is what you make of it. There is nothing to do except have a good time and we did just that. I'm planning my next cruise already. If anyone has any questions I would try to answer them the best way I can. LATER!!!

It's Playa Uvas, their website is:

http://www.playauvas.com/

Also, if you do a search over at the Cozumel boards you'll find info about them. It seems like a nice alternative to Paradise Beach.

Sorry I spelled it wrong. But yeah it's a good alternative just like Vanessa said. Small, not crowded. We liked it & I'm sure you will.

  • 5 weeks later...
We have the same cabin in December. Anything special about that room. We've had a Carnival Balcony before, but I wonder about rocking, noise, location, etc.

Thanks!

The room was great. Your real high up about 7-8 stories so you will have a good view and there is one no above you also. Didn't feel any rocking, noise was to a minimum. Expect the splashing of the waves. When the balcony door is closed you can't hear the outside. So if you want to sleep like a baby you can. Not that much traffic. Close to the lido deck, pool, pool slide and the elevators. The staff on that deck was real nice. Overall 10 out of 10. We enjoyed it all.

Thanks for the review. We are leaving in January. We have never cruised Carnival, mostly because of the reputation of it being a "party ship" and we are OLD!!!. However, you made it sound quite fun. (Really, I go to eat, and from what you said, the food is good) :D
