Spa question

C-U-ONBOARD

Recommended Posts

So my BF and I had planned to do the couples message on our cruise this Sunday, however, he has opted out of getting the message. This will be my first cruise and therefore I have not utilized the spa previously. I was wanting opinions on your favorite spa service...I am opting between a message for myself, a facial or that hot rock treatment. I get both messages and facials regularly but I have never had any hot rock treatments...what are your favorites? What service would you recommend? Thanks in advance for your feedback...

A hot rock treatment is nice if you love massages. I like massages, but love facials that include a neck/shoulder massage.

It really depends on your preferences.

BTW, at the start of my facial, I tell the operator that I've paid for a great facial, not a sales pitch to buy products. (I say it more nicely than that, but the message is clear)

This is my first time visiting the fashion board, so I hope no one will mind my adding my $.02 to this discussion. :o)

I am a licensed esthetician (facialist) and experienced cruiser (#7 in a couple of weeks!) who has taken advantage of spa services onboard in the past. For what it's worth, I would recommend keeping your massage appointment or maybe get a fabulous hairstyle on formal night. I'm not certain where you are cruising, if it's warm or cool weather, but in either case I would not recommend experiencing a facial while onboard. Most facials do include some level of exfoliation and when you are exposed everyday on vacation to environmental elements such as sun, salt and wind, it can make you more at risk for for irritation or sunburn. I usually recommend a facial to my clients the month before a sunny vacation and a treatment when they return to help soothe and repair the skin.

My advice, for anyone, is to be vigilant and liberal with your use of sunscreen. It's the best anti-aging tool in anyone's arsenal! Again, I don't mean to offend anyone by discouraging you from an onboard facial, but it is my professional point of view.

Have a wonderful time on your cruise!

The hot rock massage is VERY expensive. We sat with a couple who had hot rock massages on Mariner and they were $195 per person.

Just thought I would throw that in there for your consideration!

If I was to have money to spend in the spa, I might go with either a pedicure (since we show our toes through the whole cruise), or a great hairstyle for formal night ~ since it is a pain to do fancy hair in the cabin, without all of our tools. Just my opinion!
