Booking another cruise while on board (MERGED)

We want to get on genesis in 2009. Could we make a reservation for late 2008 while onboard next week, and transfer it to genesis (2009) at some point in the future? Can you switch the ships the reservation is for, and have the credit still apply?

I was under the impression you stay on the same ship/same week. I'd just tell the loyalty ambassador your plans and see what the official answer is. By talking with the loyalty ambassador, you're commited to nothing. And worse case, you don't get the cruise credit. You'll still get some tips on Genesis.

We had to change our ship and our week and had no problem doing so. I have read about people booking cruises and then changing to cruises that will be open in the future. I also have heard something about the final payment being due when the final payment for the originally booked cruise would have been due. (I am just passing on what I have heard.)

How much on average do you save if you book your next cruise while on board? We are sailing on FOS in Feb. Would like to surprise the wife with the next cruise as part of her birthday gift. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated

You receive an onboard credit toward the next cruise ranging from $50 to $200 depending on the length of the cruise you book.

In addition to saving by booking your next cruise while on-board, if you have flexibility in your schedule, quite often the 'last-minute' price drops can be great. For instance, the 13 night reposition cruise of Grandeur from Baltimore to New Orleans is now $699 PP Inside ($599 PP Seniors)!! :) Almost can't afford to stay home at those prices!!

BUT...RCI is now using the dreaded '*' to restrict the price drop to ONLY NEW reservations!! :(

We do it every cruise and although you do have the risk of a price drop at particular times of year I find it is a good value most of the time. You can always cancel before you make final payment to receive a refund of your deposit.

I have always had RCI honor our price drops even after full payment deadline and I always book directly through them as well.

 

And to OP, we just booked last month while onboard for next summer...got $100 per cabin (we booked 2 cabins) in onboard account and $100 (since we are plat.) per balcony cabin...so for us was $400 by doing onboard.

Use an on-line broker. There are a number of them including Sharebuilder, Ameritrade, and Scottrade among many others. Once you have that you can find the details on how to apply the room credit on the RCCL corporate site wich is accessible through their consumer site.

The cruise we leave for this week was booked on board and due to status with RCCL we received an additional $100 discount on board plus the room credit. I assume this varies by cruise and time of year but another bonus to booking on board.

I actually book with cruisevalue instead of on RCCL because I got a better OBC deal than the 100 offers. Are there any other perks with booking on board?
