Has anyone ever been to folkstone marine area? can you snorkel right off the beach on a trail/ or do you need to go out on a boat? Also, how far away is it from the pier? does anyone know how much it would cost? thanks!

We've snorkeled at Folkstone, both shore and boat access. The snorkeling from shore is quite good. It's easy to get there via taxi - probably about a 20-25 minute drive, but it's been a while, so I don't remember how much it cost. There's not much of a beach there - mostly a large grassy area, with steps/rocks down into the water. You can rent a lounge chair though, and sit on the lawn just as if you were on a beach. There is also snorkeling gear for rent, if you need.

We went last November.... we had a private tour with Cameron Reid and on the way back we requested a short snorkle at Folkstone.....well when we got there they were surfing on 4-5 foot waves.... it was very windy that day and hence no snorkling.... just an fyi so you can have an alternate plan....remember Mother Nature does not always cooperate ;)

these 2 places are like Chalk and Cheese as they say.. 2 totally different set ups..

One government run (Folkstone).. quite place, good off the beach snorkeling and not too many people around. Nice Museum etc. up the west coast about 20min drive via taxi. Beach and park are free. not to much in the way of food.. very basic if much.

One privately owned (Boatyard) is a party place. Flat beach, Flat water, not much snorkeling, but water toys, kayaks, trampolines etc. Drinks Eats readily available. On the south coast about 10 min drive by taxi.. Cost to get into the facility and that gets you a chair, use of the water toys, facilities etc, but you can go on to the beach, via a public beach access for nothing (but no chairs, watertoys etc included)
