HELP! Which Line......

Need some advice from cruise experts who have sailed both RC and Princess!! We have ONLY sailed with RC and are considering trying Princess because of the cost difference! Royal Caribbean is SO much more expensive for the two cruises that we are planning!

1st cruise : 7 night very similiar itinerary :

Explorer D1 (nice aft cabin)

Caribbean Princess BA on caribe deck

RC is $1,643.00 MORE!

2nd cruise: Princess is only $118 more for a 10 night!!

7 night on Liberty D1 (great aft cabin!) - boring itinerary!

10 night on Emerald (also a new ship) BA on caribe deck - much more exciting intinerary!

Is Royal Caribbean REALLY THAT different from Princess to justify that price difference? (Not to mention that Princess really has a much better offering on intinerary!)

What do you think???

The two cruise lines are actually more alike than they are different. We sailed on the Golden Princess earlier in the year and had a great time. I wrote a review then and I gave Princess a small edge in some areas and RCI a small edge in others. Food and service are comparable on both lines. I would definitely not pay $1,600 more to sail on RCI. If Princess is cheaper or has the better itinerary I would go with Princess without giving it a second thought. The only thing you won't find on Princess are things like the rock climbing wall, ice skating, etc.

For the price difference on similar itineraries, go with Princess. We've been on both - we're diamond status with RCI, but not the equivalent on Princess. Aside from price, the two are very similar. The only real noticeable thing we've seen is that on Princess, the 'sidewalks' roll up earlier in the evening (after 11 p.m., most everyone is in bed), while on RCI, there are more activities and programs, including those at poolside, and RCI is more family oriented. Another difference is in the service; we think RCI is a little better (degrees of good is measured here - both are good). Also, your choice is dependent on where you want to cruise. If Alaska, sail with none other than Princess, they do that itinerary the best of all.:)

Thanks for your replies! This makes me feel much better about trying Princess. I also forgot to mention that we will be traveling with 2 children. Hopefully the kid's program on Princess is as good as RCI's. My only regret is that Princess does not offer in-room sitting which is great for our 2 year old! We are leaving for AOS in less than two weeks and will see how much we use the in-room sitting!

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. We have been on Princess 5 times and just went on our first RCCL. Since we had been on 3 Carnival in between I kept saying to hubby the whole cruise, this is just like Princess. The service, food, everything was wonderful on both lines.
