fancy: in San Diego, we have stayed right across from the cruise pier at Holiday Inn On-the-Bay. You can walk to and from the cruise pier and if you can request a bay view room to see your ship arrive (if you are embarking in San Diego). It is a 5 minute cab ride from the airport and a short walk to Anthony's Grotto restaurant right on the bay. Wish I could help with Hawaii hotel-the only one we have used is the Hale Koa, for military, retired military and DOD civilian employees. If you fit one of those categories, then you might want to try the Hale Koa-right on Waikiki Beach. Hope this helps!:)

not sure exactly what you're looking for in a hotel room. Outrigger Ohana is a line of value hotels. Clean, safe, near the beach, pretty much a no-frills budget hotel chain. Outrigger has other hotels, such as Outrigger on the Beach, which is a beautiful, high end hotel. other high end choices would be the Royal Hawaiian and Sheraton Moana. The Ala Moana Hotel is a good middle-of-the-road hotel that is connected to a huge shopping mall. hope this helps.
