Hanauma Bay

What is the best way for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children) to get to Hanauma Bay from the Marriott Waikiki? I'm thinking a snorkel tour may be more expensive (X4) compared to a cab but is it possible to get a cab there and back? How close would The Bus get us?

taxi is about $25 each way, doing the bus would involve some longish walking uphill/downhill

There was a car rental agency right there in the hotel when we were there - I think it was Hertz?

FYI if you are planning to snorkle at the bay....

 

Be prepared to stand in line to get a ticket,

stand in line to see a manditory movie,

a long walk down the hill or wait for the little trolley for $1 (I think)

then wait and push your way up to the rental office to get equipment.

 

All in all, I think it took us at least 45 minutes after we arrived to be able to get into the water. (this was early afternoon)

 

It is beautiful, think I would have enjoyed it more if I knew the routine before I went.
