Credit Cards in MSY

A friend of mine just came back from New Orleans and she said that some places can not or will not take credit cards and ATM fees are through the roof. This is the first I have heard of it and will be spending a few days in early December there, so this is a pretty big issue for me. She stayed right in the French Quarter and that is where the issue was. I thought the quarter was back to normal.

Anyone else heard of this or had this happen. I searched all over the internet for info and could not find it, so even though I am not cruising I knew my cruising friends could help!

We use our CC's frequently in the Quarter and have not had a problem.

Have not used ATM's so can't help there.

A lot of the bars and shops in the French Quarter have ATM's with outrageous charges, but there are regular bank ATM's that charge nothing if you bank with them or $2 or $3 if you don't.

No problems with credit cards that I've seen.

I use my ATM and CC quite often in the French Quarter and haven't had any problems lately. There are some places that for a while only wanted cash because their phone service wasn't working, so they couldn't check out CC. ATM machines do have a range of charges. I think the worst I've seen is in the casino - with a 5% charge on one machine, but then next to it was a machine with a $2 charge for any transaction. As someone else said, the ones in bars and clubs are more expensive, but there are several bank ones in the Quarter. Do be safety conscious when using any of those on the street.

The Quarter is up and running, but some places are still on limited hours.
