rogerdm Posted July 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2004 I have started getting pop-ups regarding cruises from http://previewpops.com. This started happening when the new boards came on. Maybe it is a coincidence, I'm not sue, but it is terribly annoying!
Guest alexMD Posted July 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2004 Someone (you or someone using your computer) downloaded (advertently or inadvertently) some spywear. This spywear will track the websites you visit and pull down ads it feels match your interests. You can download and install a free and reliable spyware blocker called Ad-aware 6 Personal. It is available from lavasoft.com. One thing you DO get here is that obnoxious popup for the CruiseCritic newsletter (i.e. way to get you on a mailing list that is then sold to travel-related solicitors). sueinphilly Posted July 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2004 I would also recommend using the google toolbar. Easy access for searching and it also has a popup blocker http://toolbar.google.com/

wv4891 Posted July 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2004 Peg, I am still not having any problems since I reported that one lone instance. Maybe it's an East Coast /West Coast thing???? ;) Bill
mmp13 Posted July 18, 2004 #6 Share Posted July 18, 2004 I have the problem everytime I come here so now I just run the spyware program and delete them every time I'm here. it's not that big a deal now that I know I have to do that.
CockyGoffin Posted July 18, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 18, 2004 I use these board on both PC's and Mac computers. The popups are definitely NOT from this board. Your problem is Spyware/Adware (click link for definitions). Search Google for Remove Adware and lots of helpful links will come up. Hope this helps... rogerdm Posted July 21, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted July 21, 2004 I installed "adware 6.0" and "popup stopper". Solved the problem. Thanks to you all for the great advice.
