I just can't seem to get an answer to this question. Do they have a band that plays out at the pool once in a while?

 

I'm sorry ... I had included a response to this in an edit of my prior remarks, but it didn't make it to the board. :(

 

Yes, they will have live music most sea days in the Lido Pool area (the midships pool) at least for a period of time late morning/early afternoon. They may play music by the aft deck pool, too, when the ship is in warmer environs.

We did a similar cruise out of NYC a couple of years ago on the Rotterdam, and really enjoyed the sea days. Very probably only the first full day and the last day will be indoor days and as others have said there is the indoor pool, spa, casino trivia etc. to enjoy or find a great place with a book and watch the world go by. I am a little disappointed though that we don't arrive in Tortola until 3 p.m. and stay until 11. It gets dark there by 6 - Tortola has some wonderful beaches that we won't be able to enjoy for the day:( .

 

You'll be even more disappointed with the Tortola stop, which now ends at 9 p.m. instead of midnight--so you can't even have supper in Tortola unless you eat fairly early.

DW and I are with you, Smartcookie: we much prefer port days to sea days because for us the ship is primarily just a nice moving hotel/restaurant to get us from port to port as we sleep.

 

She does enjoy some of the shipboard things too, and spends her sea days getting her fill of Tea and Bingo and Casino and Shopping and Movies, etc.

 

Our last sea day I usually spend mainly holed up in our cabin working on my pictures on my laptop: editing, captioning, organizing, etc. :D

Yes, port days are fun ... no question. But sea days can be great too, if you can just teach yourself to relax and low down the pace a notch.

Rita, I love port days. I don't know how to relax well and I tend to bing off the walls, on sea days. It tends to become all about the food, for me at least.

Oh, that day was so much fun!

I loved christening the pool bar - wading in fully dressed and feeling all eyes on me ("What's he doing in that murky water?!?!")

I've noticed in later pictures that the water is much clearer nowadays...

...and the knee is fine - only hurts when I laugh.

If I remember correctly the Noordam 10 days stops in Tortola from 3PM to 11:59PM but the Noordam 11 days stops from 3PM to 9PM.

 

Unfortunately I'm on the 3-9PM cruise. :( However loving the 11 days! :D

I am on a 7 day Princess cruise in February and disappointed we have only one day at sea! I think it's time to upgrade to a 10+ day cruise on the Noordam for 2008 :)

That's interesting to hear as I checked my reservation today online and it says still 3:00-9:00PM. But I sure hope that they will change my itinenary also for the later departure. :)

Maybe you're luck, and 11:59 has been restored. The web site listing for our cruise, and our docs for 11/15 (3 days to go!) say 9 p.m. The two 11 day trips so far left Tortola at nine. You have the next 11 day after us, and the web site says midnight. Very strange. I wish it were 11;59 for us, since our day would be shaped differently, and we would eat dinner on shore even though Tortola is the night for our favorite evening meal, Dutch night.

We LOVE sea days so it's never a matter of having to "cope". There is always something - or nothing - to do and thouroughly enjoy it! We love port days too but, we plan our cruises and know long before we step on board how many sea days and how many port days, and always know what we want to do on each. There can never be too much of either one!

I loved the sea days on the Noordam. After traveling so far to get there it was nice to have a few days to relax before we started hitting ports. It was also nice to have a few days to relax before returning to the real world. I can also recommend "mixology" on the sea days at the Atrium bar with Ronald. It was really fun! :D
