I will be doing this same cruise in Feb on the Star - do you happen to know on which page I will find the photos of Ixtapa - it is the one port on this cruise that i haven't being to before.

I am also interested in knowing what excursion you either did or would recommend for this port.

Happy Thanksgiving and cheers

Just came back from a 10 day on Celebrity Mercury.

In Acapulco we took a private tour through town to the Diamond Coast, some shopping and the cliff divers. Traffic is HORRIBLE and extra time is needed for any form of ground transporation.

I would not recommend water contact sports in Acapulco Bay. It is notoriously polluted. Instead, I would recommend the Playa Marques, which is the next bay south (on the way to the Diamond Coast). There is parasailing there.

We did not go to Ixtapa. We stopped in Zihautanejo (which is where the tender stops) and walked around the town and shopped. The beach here is small but picturesque, and you can walk easily from the tender pier. You have to take a cab or tour to get to Ixtapa.

IXTAPA/Z was our favorite port... being so beautiful and green... !!!

we took a water taxi to las gatas beach,, 3$ per person one way

and we snorkeled ,, the ship is right in front of you its really nice

theres some pics of us there in our webshots album,,,

there was a tour off the ship to do this and it was like 55 per person, such a rip off,,,

we did it on our own and saved a lot ...

we werent impressed with acapulco, we went to a turtle farm thing and released turtles, our daughter liked it , but it was too long,, and it took over 1 hr each way , and they took us shopping in the ghetto... we didnt feel safe,,

im going to check which page ixtapa/z is on...

PAGE 7 in our webshots album starts the pics at las gatas beach in ixtapa/z... beautiful area. and nice friendly people .... always smiling...

take care everyone

I also went on the star for 8 nights, I felt the same way about Acapulco. This was my least favorite port, do NOT go to the flea market, it seriously was like being in the Mexican ghetto. We also felt very unsafe. We got hassled from the moment we got off the ship by tour guides and so took a private tour to the cliff divers, the flea market, and then up the mountain side to see the scenery, also stopped off at Senor frogs for a margarita. The driver ripped us off in the end, and so I would strongly recommend, if you are going to do an booked exursions to do one in Acapulco, not a great place to venture out on your own.

My favorite port was Cabo, but a close second was Ixtapa/Z.

In Cabo we took a water taxi from the marina (where the tendors go) to Lovers beach, the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. The water was green and clear. It was a wonderful day to relax, and very cheap to get to the beach and spend the day.

In Ixtapa, we took our only shore excursion and swam with the dolphins, which was amazing.

In retrospect, I would have taken the dolphin swim in Acapulco, and wandered around Z......(can't remember how to spell that crazy name). This town was very cute, and mexican, with cobblestone roads and many little shops. The beach was nice, and right there off the tendors.
