glorialee Posted November 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2006 We're going on the Westerdam eastern carribean cruise over Christmas week. Two of us (21 year old and closing in on 50) are considering the snuba adventure in Grand Turks. Has anyone tried it before? Opinions, suggestions appreciated. Iggipolka Posted November 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2006 Snuba rules! We snubaed in Cozumel and it was wonderful. It was so nice not to have to wear the scuba tanks or worry about any scuba technical issues. The tank floated on a raft on the surface of the water and we were connected to it by tubes. I hardly noticed the raft at all. My only complaint is that the excursion was too short! :)
10s nut Posted November 30, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 30, 2006 I am a total snorkel fanatic. Thought I would love to scuba. However, I was freaked out with sharing my breathing apparatus and all of the issues with weights. When I took the diving course I realized that I am a control nut and maybe a closet claustrophobic. I loved snuba. You can go down 15/20 ft., no weights, no concerns, and you see things you wouldn't see floating on the top. Try it. You will be hooked:D
FRANKIEDNYC Posted November 30, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 30, 2006 :) Question, Do you have to be a qualified diver to snuba?
10s nut Posted December 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted December 1, 2006 Absolutely not. You are given a brief instruction on how to use the scuba breathing apparatus. It is very easy, especially since you don't have to pass the buddy breathing test:p
jr24308 Posted December 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted December 1, 2006 10s nut, You mentioned no weights. Did you have trouble staying down? I'm a bit buoyant and would tend to float up without weights. Thanks for the great info on snuba...
10s nut Posted December 1, 2006 #7 Share Posted December 1, 2006 It's been a while but I'm sure you have something. Probably just a jacket with the minimum. The object is to see what you can't see while snokeling but not have the weight and ear popping problems of scuba. However, don't come up too quickly!
