ajcolorado Posted December 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2006 We plan to spend most of this port day on the ship but want to do a little snorkeling. We don't want to do an excursion or go out with the Stingrays. My husband & son are certified divers but my daughters & I are only beginner snorkelers. Our youngest is only nine. I found this website: http://caymanislandsdiscounts.com/OffshoreSnorkeling.htm#GTEden Have you snorkeled any of these spots? How were they? George Town, Wreck of the Gamma George Town, Cheeseburger Reef George Town, Wreck of the Cali George Town, Paradise to Eden Rock/Devils Grotto
KruzNutty Posted December 1, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2006 I've snorkeled a couple of times at Eden Rock. I think it's great. It's easy walking distance from downtown. I have seen all kinds of different fish there and the coral/rock formations are really nice too. I've seen lots of people scuba diving the area also. It's one of my favorite places for shore snorkeling. They also have lockers so that you can lock-up your stuff while in the water. Definitely check it out. Have a great time. FinelyCruising Posted December 2, 2006 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2006 We have enjoyed snorkeling up at the Courtyard Marriott. Free beach with a nice beach bar for a bite to eat and some drinks if you like. Rentals are available for snokel gear and also if you want to rent a chair and an umbrella you can, and there are wave runners at this location if you decide that's something you want to do too. Also, there is a rinse off to remove the sand from your feet or rinse your gear before you get back in the taxi and head back to the ship. A nice clean area with amenities and with some nice fish to be seen right off the beach in water that is not too deep and is not rough. Great for first timers. nolaAlive Posted December 2, 2006 #5 Share Posted December 2, 2006 There are dive shops at Eden Rock and also one at Cali. Think Bob Soto's at Cheeseburger is still closed. Some pics from Cali and Eden Rock. A few from Cheeseburger Reef area, but I didn't snorkel cause I didn't see anywhere easy to secure my stuff. But didn't look to long, either, wanted in the water. http://www.zydecocruiser.com/gc_dec_2005.htm Some more from Eden Rock here: http://www.zydecocruiser.com/valor_06/GC/gc_3.htm Perhaps a few that aren't duplicates in here: http://www.zydecocruiser.com/eden_rock.htm

KaC-Cruiser Posted December 3, 2006 #7 Share Posted December 3, 2006 We've snorkeled & done dives at Eden Rock ... it's convenient and good. You can also take the bus out to Dive Tech by the turtle farm, and the shore dives there are great. Our friend snorkeled and had a good time on her own .... LFM Posted December 3, 2006 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2006 We had just planned to wing it on Grand Cayman - but we have to snorkel and have our own equipment. This sounds great as we can't spend all day shopping.
