Dive outfit recomendations in Costa Maya

There are not a large number of dive operators to choose from. Aside of the already mentioned Dreamtime, there is:

http://www.mayapalms.com/ Which you can also book thru http://costamayacruiseexcursions.com/CostaMayaScubaDiving.htm

http://www.blueoceansafari.com/

I am NOT making a recommendation, I am just offering information. It is up to you to make your own choice. If you want more reviews of the dive operations, try using the search feature and the terms "Costa Maya" or "Maya Palms".

Also check the Costa Maya section of cruisecritic.

Finally, be sure to sign up for the roll call for your sailing. Maybe you will be able to meet up with some other divers on the ship.

I've dove with Blue Ocean Safari on Aug. 31. You can read my review in the Costa Maya port forum.

The reef and diving is good there. BOS had some issues in organizing, but some of that is attributed to Mahahual being quite new.

If I had more time in port, Maya Palms seem to have good reviews.

There will be more ships stopping in CM, and there will be more dive ops set up there in the years to come.

  • 2 weeks later...

My husband and I went diving with Blue Ocean Safari (website www.blueoceansafari.com and they were WONDERFUL!

The equipment was new (the company is pretty new). We had a great dive master and a great captain. We were only 3 in the am and 2 in the pm for diving. The water was rough that day and I get seasick easily, so they were very accomodating and took us to a great site very nearby and got me in and out of the boat very quickly.

The coral was wonderful and many more fish than 3 years ago.

One of the owners, Julie, bought us a beer on our return and sat and talked to us for awhile. I highly recommend them.

Not sure if you saw this thread or not, (located in the Costa Maya port) but a couple who was on a dive excursion booked through the ship was left at the dock while the ship sailed away.

Seems, the dive op in Costa Maya went for an afternoon dive and got the couple back to the ship as it was pulling away.

Not to scare you, but it might be a good idea to find out who the dive op was and stay away.

That post is inaccessible. May have been moved/deleted?!

Anyway, Carnival contracts with Dream Time in CM. I originally contacted them too earlier this year before my cruise. But at the time they had just signed up to be Carnival's contractor and I would've have to pay double through Carnival. That's why I looked else where and found Blue Ocean Safari.

Thanks for the info about Blue Ocean, I'm leaning that way.

I read the thread about the left behinde people, if its true, the cruse ship shouldn't have left them but, They took the risk of being late and not taking any I.D. or credit cards with them, the created their own problem there.
