Scuba diving in Nassua in early January

Has anyone done this in January? Will the wet suit be enough to keep my son warm?? He loves scuba diving and really wants to do this. Thanks!

Your son will want a wetsuit in January in my opinion. I am going a week from Friday if the weather holds & I am wearing a 6-5-4 wetsuit.

6-5-4..:confused: ..wow.... the SST was only 79 today, thats kinda thick, i wore a 3-4 last week and i was comfy. SST shouldnt be too far below 75 in jan, so a 3-4 should be fine depending on how tolerant you are.

All the dive shops rent them, so they can inform you of conditions when you arrive.

I'd base my wetsuit selection on 75 degree water. For me, two 45 minute dives in a 3mm full suit is okay, any more diving and I'd opt for my 5mm. Losing core temp isn't good for off-gassing. ;)

 

I'll be there on Majesty of the Seas (12/27?) on their Christmas cruise. I'll definitely post a report.

Since I wasn't even aware there were different types of wetsuits, I'm assuming that Stuart's Cove Dive shop will give him advice on which to use. Thanks for the info!

If you really want to stay warm wear a hood, 40% of heat loss is thru your head and a wet suit won't have any effect on that. You can even wear a hood without a suit and stay warm.

He wore one last time - so that's great advice. I have to admit I laughed hysterically because at 6'8" and quite thin - he looked like a stick of licorice!!
