Gabgab Posted December 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2006 I heard the the Knossos Museam will be closed the summer of 2007 for reservations, does any one know any details about this? Will they move some of the more popular items some where else to view because one of the main reason why I chose the cruise that I did was to see Knossos and the artifacts. (I am a History Major just fyi) Thanks for the help.
TudorSue Posted December 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 8, 2006 Having just returned from an eastern Mediterranean cruise that included Crete, I can confirm that the Knossus Museum in Heraklion closed in mid-November, at least through a major part of 2007. (I missed seeing the "goods" by one week!) I did not hear anything about relocating items in the interim. BTW, we hired a private guide at the Temple of Knossos, and this was a very worthwhile investment. So I recommend that you either see the site in a group tour or plan on engaging a guide. (There's a small guide booth to the the left of the entrance.) I say this as someone with a PhD in history - though not in this period. The printed guide book with site plan that you can buy on the grounds is simply inadequate for a full understanding and appreciation.
tom_uk Posted December 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2006 Thanks for the information on this - I was thinking of a holiday in Crete in 2007. Can I make sure I understand what is being said here (I have never been to Crete so I am not familiar with the facilities): this is a museum in Heraklion that is closed? What about the actual site - does that remain open?
