Chalker Guy Posted December 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2006 Booked on NCL Jewel 1/21. Fourth cruise, but first out of Miami, got MUCH cheaper airfare into Ft. Lauderdale if I stay an extra night after cruise. Looking for advice on rental car dropoff locations and charges(rent in Ft. Lauderdale and drop at cruise ship dock?), inexpensive but safe and clean motel for pre- and post- nights, transfer (or rental car) back from Miami port to Ft. Lauderdale airport. BurtonSnol3order Posted March 30, 2007 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2007 You should try the search feature on the boards :) buuut... I would suggest taking the tri-rail (tri-rail.com) from ft. lauderdale to the Miami Metro station and getting on the Miami metro and taking that to the port. Total cost for the trip is 5.50/person and you dont have to worry about renting cars, driving, or getting from the airport back to the cruiseport. Bequia Posted March 30, 2007 #4 Share Posted March 30, 2007 That train is late, broken down or out of service more often the not. Totally unreliable and unpredictable.
alphakitty Posted March 30, 2007 #5 Share Posted March 30, 2007 Several rental co's out of FLL do one way rentals for drop off in Miami. Hertz, Enterprise are two that come to mind. Enterprise is the one I've used, though they no longer have a free shuttle to the cruise port, the drop off is in the HYatt downtown Miami and close to the port. Cab fare was less than $10. I've found it easier to call the local office rather than book online or call the 800 #..they sometimes don't know this can be done. There is no extra fee for this one way rental. Hope it helps. :)
