NY to Papeete Nonstop Flight

Hi

I was just wondering of anyone has taken a direct, nonstop flight from NY to Papeete. What do you do when you get to the airport at 2 in the morning in Tahiti? We read that transfers to the ship do not start until 11am, so we plan on taking on a taxi....but obviously it's a bit to early to board the TP. Ideas? Experiences?

Thank you!

We were there this past June. Great to go direct to Tahiti. Service was also excellent. Because that flight only leaves from JFK 3x per week, we had to arrive a day early so we booked a night at the Sheraton. We are going again this June and will arrive at around 1AM - the PG leaves at 10PM so we also will have this inconvenient timeline. We did book a room even though it won't be a full night. You really do want to sleep and take a shower after the 13 hour flight. It just really is very relaxing and after spending all this money going to the South Pacific, another $250 is really worth it to do it comfortably. It's just not that much more when you add it all up.

Air Tahiti Nui - great airline by the way, imho. I've noticed some posts that were a bit negative, but we thought they were great. See Skytraxx and its relevant posts - its a very respected arline evaluation website. We left from JFK at 5:15pm and arrived just after midnight - Tahiti time. We also booked again this June. Approx time is the same, but arrival will be around 1am. Much much better than changing to international in LAX. You need at least 4 hours between domestic flights and your international connection because of possible delays, security, etc etc. The JFK flight is great if you are in or close to NYC. We live in NYC so it was a no brainer. Very relaxing - we have no problem with long flights even in coach. It was such an exciting time for us, just couldn't think about the size of the seats - we were going to TAHITI! Take the flight, have the free flowing French wine and enjoy - you are going to paradise - don't get hung up with the small stuff.
