Chilkoot Trail in Skagway by Rental Car?

Sorry about the last post not going through. Anyway... We will be renting a car this summer to drive to Emerald Lake thanks to all of your great suggestions out there. I also wanted to hike a portion of the Chilkoot Trail. I thought I saw somewhere that I can't drive to the trailhead near town with my rental. Is this true? Is there access to the trail somewhere else as I head up the highway? How else can I get to the trail?

Avis doesn't allow their cars on the Dyea Road which takes you to the Chilkoot trailhead, but Sourdough does. "Dyea Dave", who posts here, runs van transfers to the trailhead from Skagway - there is no access from the highway except a long hike in from Log Cabin (ca. 10 miles return).
