hadleys9538 Posted November 28, 2004 #76 Share Posted November 28, 2004 But isn't that just doing the same thing she does (the retaliatory flaming, I mean)? I'll admit it's hard not to get fired up here on the boards sometimes. I'll definitely admit that I've gotten carried away myself on a couple of occasions. :o And, just for the record, I don't want you to think that I'm in agreement with her posts. I just enjoy the freedom of speech that allows everyone to express themselves.
House_Atreides Posted November 29, 2004 #77 Share Posted November 29, 2004 Your story of someone having their car stolen brought back a memory that I reprressed lol just have to share this one... It was the morning of our cruise from Pt. Canaveral and I was taking my car (a 95 Ford Mustang convertible)..red...lol) to Burger King. Well you know how awfully hot it can get in FL. It was early morning and I thought "Oh good time to put the top down on the car!" I proceeded to do so and as the top was going back the glass in the window SHATTERED everywhere. I almost DIED....... Called my insurance company and they were absolutely wonderful about the whole thing. I explained my situation; that my ship sailed in "x" amount of hours and what do I do??? They said go to a Walmart, get duct tape and large sheets of plastic, go on the cruise, drive home and take it to the Ford dealer. Well we did just that. We were in the Captain's Club so were onboard in no time at all. Had a wonderful cruise. Back to Pt. Canaveral,...back to the car...the duct tape/plastic had come loose in several areas and there were pools of water on the floors of my car. Oh man I stood there and CRIED! We cleaned out what we could and had to drive back to North Carolina in this shape. Awful!! Turns out there was a defect in the glass and the insurance company had to fork over $4500 to replace the convertible window and top itself...and it took 3 weeks....lordy!

Guest Host Tink Posted December 12, 2004 #85 Share Posted December 12, 2004 I'm a little boy with glasses The one they call the geek A little girl who never smiles 'Cause I've got braces on my teeth And I know how it feels To cry myself to sleep I'm that kid on every playground Who's always chosen last A single teenage mother Tryin' to overcome my past You don't have to be my friend But is it too much to ask Don't laugh at me Don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me I'm fat, I'm thin, I'm short, I'm tall I'm deaf, I'm blind, hey, aren't we all? Don't laugh at me Don't call me names Don't get your pleasure from my pain In God's eyes we're all the same Someday we'll all have perfect wings Don't laugh at me. romischi Posted December 13, 2004 #86 Share Posted December 13, 2004 Carrie, The song appears in Peter, Paul and Mary's 2004 album "In these times". It was written by Steve Seskin & Allen Shamblin and it inspired Peter Yarrow, of the trio, to fund "Operation Respect". "Operation Respect" is an organization that helps children understand the painful effects of disrespect, intolerance, ridicule, and bullying. (Obviously, a lesson that many adults still stand to learn.)

Bholling Posted December 29, 2004 #88 Share Posted December 29, 2004 - I think Mark Wills sings it. Not a bad message for everyone to keep in mind... Anyway, regarding the cruise rituals...I agree that some of the "activities" are kind of worn out - if I never see another "Pillow Pole Pool Party" or whatever they call that thing where people beat the _ _ _ _ out of one another on the pole in the pool, I wouldn't be too sorry. We usually skip the captain's welcome party too, but would probably dine at his table, if asked. (Though I suspect people who skip the welcome party aren't high on the invite list...) Wouldn't miss BINGO or shopping lectures if they went away...but I know some people love them, so hey, I can always do something else, right? Smooth sailing to all... House_Atreides Posted December 29, 2004 #89 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Bholling I totally agree; I don't participate in "deck games" either myself, like in another thread I thought they were pretty corny anyway lol. On sea days, I like to spend time with my friends and/or significant other, wasting away on the private balcony or wasting money in the casino. There's always something else to do:D

kevinsac Posted May 26, 2005 #94 Share Posted May 26, 2005 In the late 70s, my parents and I were booked on the QE2 for the World Cruise, a wonderful 3-month trip. The day after departure, my Dad was called back to work, so my Mother and I were left by ourselves. (I remember her saying "Hell no, I'm not leaving! See you in April!") Dad got off the ship at the next port, and somehow the Captain heard about it. So, my Mother and I were invited to sit at the Captain's table (seated either 10 or 12) for the rest of the cruise. What was fascinating is that we got to meet so many others on the cruise, as they joined us for dinner. (Actually, the Captain himself was not at dinner each night; he alternated with the Chief of Staff and the ship's doctor every third night.) willing292 Posted May 27, 2005 #95 Share Posted May 27, 2005 if you cruise simply becasue you love the sea, why not charter a private yacht? the cost is comparable to what you pay a cruise line.
