Both Oscar Brown Tours and Charlie Soto Tours have gotten good reviews here. Does anyone know anything that would make one better than the other? This looks lilke a choice between two good tours. Not interested in the zip-lining tours - just the Tortuguero Canal Tours.

We were on the Zenith last month..............

Have read that a lot of people are having concerns about being safe in Costa Rica after the recent problem a cruise tour had with muggers.

We hired a private tour guide in Puerto Limon and had a Cruise Critic group of 11 people from the boards. We had a guide (Eduardo Humphrey) and a driver and they never left our side. We stopped at the local supermarket on our way back to the ship and they even accompanied us into the market to make certain everything was OK!

If you want to feel safe with a local guide who gives an excellent tour give him a try , he was great and very inexpensive - just $45pp for the all day tour. We did a Canal boat tour of Tortuguero (tour boat has a covered top), went to the Del Monte banana plantation, and also visited the National Park of Cahuita, with its white sand beaches. He has other tours available too, we selected what the group wanted to so.

We just returned from Zenith - ditto - last week. Very safe, did bananas and Tortuguero and were well satisfied with the cost and the experiences.

While in Pueto Limon, in December (MSC Lirica), we had a "personal tour", only my wife and I, through Charlie Soto. Our own car, with Dexter, the driver, a bilingual guide. Exceptional, in every respect. About $50/ each. And I can tell you, Charlie Soto is a "mother hen". He looks after all of his guests in Costa Rica, whether they are on a personal tour with him or one of his carefully selected guides.

Pura Vida!
