for the thread, for 1st timer's and sometimes for the ease of booking, book your dive from the ships shore excursions. if your advance and dont mind doing a lil work it is well worth to book your dives locally. remember, you might not get reimbursed ifn you miss the dive.

either way has its pros and cons
