Cingular at Sea

Has anyone used the Cingular at Sea service on the Mariner? Found a site that says Cingular, Verizon and Sprint customers can use cell phones at sea (provided they have a quad band phone) and the charge is @ 2.49 per minute. Has your phone worked and if so were there any other charges posted to your bill such as roaming?

I curently have a Nextel, which would also work if you have 1 of the 4 phones that are quads, and I am looking a switching to a cingular phone if I know it works well.

Best I know from reading and looking at Verizon's website, Verizon Wireless only works on Carnival ships and Caribbean/Mexico ports. The ships have CDMA technology, so Verizon could work, but Verizon won't sign contracts with MTN/Cingular at Sea. As far as Cingular and Sprint are concerned, they both work on the ships from what other CC members have said.

For all you Cingular owners out there, did you know that due to some recent mergers in the telecom industry, Cingular is going to become AT&T again? Here's an article about it, http://www.mlive.com/business/ambizdaily/bizjournals/index.ssf?/base/abd-2/1168674088241590.xml.

Hope some of this helps.

I have a Razr phone using Cingular. It worked very VERY well. I had an ill relative at home and I needed to keep in touch, otherwise I would have

left the phone at home. The only thing I didn't like was the bill when I got

home, but I knew the rate was high and expected it.

I've used Cingular on Enchantment and got pretty good reception except in the stateroom. However, the international roaming charges were hefty. :(

If you plan on making a large number of calls you may want to speak to your carrier to see if there are any plans that cover international roaming.
