How many cabins for a group?

We were told my our travel agent that 8 people would be considered a group and we would get the price of one berth back. We booked 5 cabins with a total of 14 ppl (2 quads). Everyone I speak with seems to have a different story. Now she is saying that it had to be 6 cabins.

Our cruise next month is a "group" booked through an on-line TA. I am the leader. The credit for the one berth is at 8 cabins.

In the past, I've booked as a group on Carnival and didn't reach the 8 cabins (so I have lame friends!) -- we still got some amenities points for free chocolates, photo credit, etc., didn't get the berth credit because we didn't have enough cabins.

A berth is basically 1 bed in a cabin.

They way it works lets say you do have the 8 cabins with two people in each cabin and each person is paying 1000$ so that is 16people x 1000$=16,000. Now with the discount 1 person would be free so you would have the same 16 people but only a 15 would be counted for the cost. so 15,000 /16=$937.50 per person so each person in the group would recieve a discount.

If you have a variety of cabin types then the free berth is based on the most common in your group. In other words if you have 2 insides, 1 OV and 5 E2 balconies then the free berth would come out of the balconies.

Hope this makes sense.

Remember that the free person still has to pay port taxes and airfare. You earn ammenity points , when you sell cabins. Depending on the ship, length of cruise, etc. there are times when you can get a free berth (cabin for 1) by only selling 5 full cabins. Also a triple or quad cabin does not give you any extra ammenity point. I have run groups and received enough points with 5 cabins sold to earn a free berth. If you have a group and don't get enough points for the free berth, you can use the points for other perks, such as casino credits, champagne in each room, etc. Your travel agent can tell you how many points you earned and what you can get with them. Good Luck. Just remember to tell your friends, it's a vacation for you too! You are not the maintenace person when the shower leaks, the matre de when their table assigment isn't right, and all the other complaints they may have. Good Luck!
