Colleen64 Posted January 17, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 17, 2007 I read a post here saying that there is a curfew for kids on Royal Caribbean. It was date 2002 and I was wondering if it was true. Anyone know?
bld16 Posted January 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2007 According to the Compass, curfew is midnight unless they are accompanying an adult or at a ship sponsored teen activity. This would include the midnight movie for teens each night. At least on the Enchantment right before Christmas.
HunnyBunnyTink Posted January 17, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2007 I was just on Mariner last month. Technically the curfew is 1 if not participating in a teen activity but I never saw it enforced. As long as the teens arent being rowdy I don't think they really care. bplazo Posted January 18, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2007 I think that it was 1:00 am on our previous cruise which I thought was too late for the teens to be out. I always had my own rule which was 12:00 am (at the very latest). Otherwise, I always had a cranky daughter on our excursions the next day. raina*faith Posted January 18, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2007 We were on the Explorer of the Seas in October and the curfuew was 1:00pm. I didn't mind it at all. I could finally go to sleep then! :)
Worktoplay Posted February 7, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2007 I've travel with my son from age 13-17 and they often stay out until 3:00 AM, it seem as the week goes on they stay out later and later. As long as they aren't mischievous kids the cruise line is very tolerant. On one Disney Cruise, the kids hung in the buffet and the staff was giving them Krispie Creme Donuts while preparing for breakfast. I have heard that cruise lines will ask you and your family to leave the ship at the next port if they find drugs or anything that could jeopordize safety. WHITELINEN Posted February 18, 2007 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2007 If we let our teens stay out until 3:00 a.m.... they would sleep until 3:00 the next day....... too expensive of a trip to only see the sights in a couple hours of day light!!!! It's also not very fair to the hard working room stewards to have them do their cabin at the odd hours they are awake. As my husband has always said... nothing good happens after midnight and we stick by this both on land and sea!!!!! We have our own curfew and enforce it. HunnyBunnyTink Posted March 1, 2007 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2007 Well I understand enforcing one if ur kids dont get up at a normal hour but I went to bed around 3 every morning (even stayed up all night the second to last night) and was up before 10. I guess it just depends on your kids.

crusinmama06 Posted January 19, 2008 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2008 i vote no curfew Sorry it's not open for vote...lol. Yes there is a curfew. And I got a paper in my cabin the first day of our RCCL cruise explaining the curfew saying that RCCL takes it "very seriously" ;)
prttygirlmss Posted January 19, 2008 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2008 We were on The Mariner in Sept. They did enforce the curfew. One night my boys were on their way back to the cabin about 1:15 am. Security asked them what they were doing. Security told them that they have to return to the cabin by 1:00am in the future, very kindly.
NoelsCat Posted January 20, 2008 #12 Share Posted January 20, 2008 I just want to reaffirm other poster's comments that the curfew is 1 am -- at least on Jewel last week. :)
todareistodo Posted January 21, 2008 #13 Share Posted January 21, 2008 i was on the jewel over xmas and the curfew was 1 and it was STRICTLY enforced. personally i (a 16 year old) think that a curfew is stupid and actually causes more trouble than it would prevent. instead of having teens hanging out in a public area late at night, we would hang in someones room. where do you think more trouble would happen? pubic area with (gasp!) possibly your parents seeing you or someones room where noone can see what your doing? One night i was with 6-7 ppl and it was like 12:55 and we were hungry so we were gonna go up to the pizza place to get pizza when we literally were harassed by 10-15 rent a cops. after calmy explaining that we were hungry, they let us get our pizza. actually they were pretty nice, talked to us until we finished our pizza. than they escorted us back to the rooms, not caring that all of us were in one room. My child would not be hanging out in someone's room at 1:00am. I enforced a midnight curfew for my daughter even when she was 18 and a freshman in college on our last cruise. I payed for the cruise so my rules are followed.

Im not knocking your cruise rules, but honestly i didnt meet anyone who had a curfew or shyed away from being in someones room. even the kids who did "have" curfews easily snuck out later and met us. anyway what im trying to say is that wouldnt you rather have your child hanging out in a public area late or in someones room? bplazo Posted January 21, 2008 #17 Share Posted January 21, 2008 You do have a point. However, I found that if she stayed out too late she was cranky the next day. You are also right that my daughter did try to sneak out one night and I did find out about it. My daughter said that is was fun to sit out by the pool and chat with all the new friends that she had met on board and I did understand that but her safety is always my main concern. I may trust her to a certain extent but I do not trust strangers.

I do get your point. I mean, we were all 16 once and I still remember what it was like. ;) And that's the reason that when my girls are 16 on a cruise, they will have different rules than everyone else. No hanging out in anyone's cabin. And they will have my curfew. I am with bplazo. Luckily I am a really light sleeper...lol. :p

Onessa Posted January 23, 2008 #22 Share Posted January 23, 2008 And your than denying them the chance to be like you :p Oh God forbid they do the things that I did as a teen! Oh heck no! LOL! I dunno if what you did as a teen is all that different than today... What was different was that most of what I did when I was a kid was legal then (but isn't now)! We had a 18YO drinking law and the penalty for underaged drinking was rarely enforced (and if it was enforced it was considered a very minor infraction). Possession of a little weed was pretty much overlooked (the cops would confescate it and that would be it). You got your "regular" driver's license on your 16th birthday -- no graduated exclusions, no manditory behind-the-wheel, etc. [and hey, a sidebar here -- I really have never been much of a drinker, but did like to go to the discos to dance when I was underage, and while I was at plenty of parties where joints were present, I never did try it. and when I got my DL at age 16 my mother, the librarian, made me deliver books to shutins -- that was the limit to my driving for at least 18 months. Bummer!] I feel sorry for kids now days -- stuff that would have been taken care of between the parent and child, now becomes a public issue with far reaching consequences -- permentent arrest record, incarceration, permanent expullsion and/or ejection from extra-curricular activies. The stakes are just SO much higher! It is because of all the really stupid things we did and/or saw others do when we were young in the 70's or the 80's that your generation is "shackled". But also, my DD (now 12YO) when 16 will not be out until 3:00am, even while on a cruise. :) And will not be in another's cabin at any time (at least not unless partly supervised and with absolutely NO BOYS!)
