 There will be 8 of us returning to Miami after our Cruise on the Norwegian Jewel on Sunday Feb. 18th. I am sure we will be off the Ship by 10:00, and our Flight out of Fort Lauderdale is at 8:45 pm. We our considering either a Tour of some sort,or We thought about renting a couple of cars and going off on our own. The question about renting a car is, are there any car rental companys by the Miami port that you can rent from, and then drop off at the Fort Lauderdale Airport? Also any info on some things to see or do would really help out alot.

I just got a tip on here this morning about hiring Larry's Limos for the day. It's really a decent deal. The guy quoted me $65/hour for a stretch limo. For us (there's 6 of us...it'd be even cheaper per person for your group) that's about the same as the Carnival excursion, and we can go where we want to and aren't stuck on a charter bus! 1-800-611-6631 If you're interested.

I'm still looking for specific things to do (our flight is 4:30 p.m.). I know we want to swing through South Beach, but beyond that I'm somewhat clueless. Maybe hitting Bayside (we won't have chance to do that pre-cruise). I just don't know "active" we want to be after being so active on our cruise.

Good luck! I'll be keeping an eye on both of our posts to see if anyone replies!

There is an Avis in Downtown. I'm sure you can rent a car there and return at FLL. Once you get the car you are free to go anywhere you like. Depends what you want to do...but you can visit obvisouly South Beach and walk up and down Ocean Drive and check out the shops or get something to eat as well as Collins Ave. You can also check out Coconut Grove where you will basically find more of the same....shops and restaurants and a couple of bars. There are some parks close by the Grove where you can take some nice pictures by the bay and see all of the sailboats docked in the water. You can also try driving more inland toward Coral Gables...to see of much the same as everywhere else.

If you are interested in more active pursuits you can drive down 8th Street (Tamiami Trail) and go to the Everglades and check out some indian reserve sites or go airboat riding and get alligator tours. AS well as the Micosukee Casino (which in my opinon is not very nice). You may also want to check out the new Hard Rock Casino in Ft. Lauderdale..which again has mostly shops and restaurants and you can play some card games or hit the machines for some luck.

You can visit the Vizacaya Gardens which is really nice and close to the port as well as the science musuem across the street. You cna go to bayside and do the boat tours of the rich and famous around the bay.

Miami is really just mostly shopping, eating, tanning, and drinking :)

Some of the limo companies have van's that will fit 8 plus luggage and you can pay by the hour. Check out Holland Limo Service http://hollandlimousine.com . We are sailing Feb 4th-11 and since there will just be 2 of us we are renting a car from Budget. Picking it up at the pier n MIA and dropping it later that day at the FLL airport. We have all day as well.

Good luck...(we are also looking for things to do in Ft Lauderdale as we will be doing South Beach on the way to the ship....

I don't know if you have kids in your party but there isn't much to do with kids in Miami. We had the same situation of a late flight and we decided to rent a hotel room for the day. We ended up getting take out and spending the afternoon by the pool. Then we could shower, change and even nap before our flight home.
