We get them for our deceased mothers & my bird too who was a partner of my husband's business & he gets pre-approved credit cards. He was on CNN years ago.

Great...now my cats are wanting to apply for a credit card with no credit limit.

Bank of America just sent me a letter telling me that the "upgrade" told to me on 1.22.07 was an error. The RCCL Signature Visa is not in existance. B of A has a Signature Visa card but it may be applied for & they have enclosed an application.

They apologize for Elissa's error, that excellent customers will be upgraded to a Signature Visa version of the card they have. That is an error. They were told again to promote the Signature Visa to customers but not promise an upgrade.

So it was too good to be true. So glad I have my AMEX for double warranty, and other perks that we do not get with Platinum Plus (which is a minus other than double points for RCCL purchases).

Thanks for the info Brenda.............I guess I was right all along. ;) Always read the fine print and ask lots of questions when switching credit cards.

on the phone. I was given the Signature Visa web site to d/l the perks & explanation of them. They were upgrading me for being an excellent customer with an excellent rating. Then a week later I get the letter stating it was an error. B of A isn't sitting to well with me.

So what are they doing to better the Platinum Plus card? Warranty, lost luggage coverage for all the cruises we book with it? The card has nothing much to sing praises about. Neither does the Celebrity card which you have to have to get double points from them too.

Guess I meant the fine print on what you down loaded and asking more questions when they phoned you. Were you able to reinstate your RCI Platinum Plus card? Would hate to see you lose the points for your upcoming cruise. Sometimes less is better when it comes to credit card perks.

Neither does the Celebrity card which you have to have to get double points from them too.

It would be nice if the RCI card would give double points for purchases on Celebrity, too. I haven't sailed with them yet, but would like to some day. Just as they give equal perks for being a Platinum or Diamond with RCI, equally recognized points would be an incentive to use the card.

I just got my new RCI VISA and will be using it for most purchases and for paying utilities, etc. However, my Costco AX, which works on percentage of purchase for $ to be used at Costco, gives me 3% on the dollar for eating out and 2% on the dollar for travel. Since I have figured out that the best case scenario for RCI on a free 7 night Caribbean cruise for 2 is a 1.8% return on the dollar I will be using my AX card for dining out and all travel (not including purchases with RCI). I'd prefer the cruise, but hey, I can always spend the money at Costco and put my savings towards a cruise!:) It's all about getting the best bang for the buck in my mind.

BTW, we do eat out a lot & DH flies about weekly on business, so I hope that the BOA VISA looks hard at the competition soon! Soon after I applied for the RCI card I got a letter from AX that my credit limit had been raised quite a bit, and the VISA card started me off at exactly where my AX card was at the time, so I know they track what the other one is doing!

Okay, I currently have a Bank of America card. I called B of A and asked if I could be switched to a RCI card (I read on someones thread a while back they were able to do this). I was told that I would have to reapply for that card but they could put me into the World Points program and send a new World Points Visa to me. I asked if I would get double points with RCI and she didn't have an answer. I guess I will have to wait and see what they send me (which will take 3-4 weeks I was told). I guess I should have asked more questions !

I have 2 VISA from MBNA from August 2004. Celebrity Worldpoints Visa & RCCL Platinum Visa. Both give double points when you book a cruise & use their card to pay for it (deposit, final payment & onboard charges). But very little perks on either of them.

Now that B of A took over MBNA they may be trying to swayed folks over with some nice perks, but not telling the rest of us. Maybe RCCL is a worldpoints card now, but the card I have is MBNA Platinum Plus. As I am getting posts on perks that the Signature Visa has that they came they have on the RCCL Platinum VIsa, when I bought a clothes dryer May 2006 I had no warranty expansion as I would with AMEX for another year, but the store took VISA only.

Then they tell me I am upgraded to Signature Visa with all the perks & a week later I am told the card doesn't exist & it was an error on the clerk's part. So now I am getting very leary of B of A.

Unfortunately the new World Points Signature VISA is not endorsed by RCI like the Platinum Plus is. But you get the same benefits with the RCI PP card. You have to apply on RCI's website if you want the PP VISA.

I would think that since you already have a B of A card and want to switch it to an RCI PP VISA, they should be able to do it, since B of A handles both cards.

So now I am getting very leary of B of A.

I was so disappointed when MBNA was bought out by B of A! The ONLY reason I am keeping it open is to earn the cruise points, but I'm seriously considering closing my account. Here's why. In 1999 (yes, I can hold a grudge... lol), I came home from work one afternoon and opened a piece of mail from my mortgage company. It was a foreclosure notice! I have ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS paid my bills ON TIME and have excellent credit. I called the mortgage company, which WAS B of A and asked about the letter. They said I hadn't paid my mortage in MONTHS. I was very pregnant with my first child and quite moody, but am proud to say that I remained pretty calm (until after the call, then I broke down in tears). However, it took MONTHS for me to prove my situation. They were getting my checks (well ahead of the due date) and cashing them, but were not crediting my account. My bank wrote letters upon letters with copies of my cancelled checks to prove our case. All said and done, it took almost 1 year of frequent to periodic contact with B of A to get our account rectified. B of A DID send a letter of apology (I was SHOCKED!), but have never done business with them again.

It seems like they are still a too big for their own good company that doesn't know their product and can't train their employees. I know they only recently merged; however, shame on them for not focusing on their CUSTOMER.

Sorry for the rant... but Macop brought it up. ;) lol

P.S. and when you pay off your SUV in one lump sum (since you pay the balance off every month wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy before it is due) don't forget the IRS will be notified for any payment made over $10,000. It happened to me when I bought a Cadilac in 1990 and payed $32,000 cash. Just so ya know it!

LOL, I've never been in that situation, but thanks for the heads up. And although there might be another person saying it didn't happen to them ... I'd like to error on the side of caution :)

If things were simple...........we wouldn't need cruise critic:D

Then I wouldn't have had the pleasure of be-friending you :)

Now back to the OP question:

Yes we have an RCCL Visa card. Yes we use it for everything. Yes you get 2x the points when using it on RCCL cruises. Even cash advances from the RCCL Casinos come out as "purchases" so you're not charged an extra fee for the money advance convenience.

Yes it is easy to get the points.

You have to start redeeming them at least 8 weeks before final payment is due. That's how long it takes to get the coupon from Witchita Kansas to your house (in Cali), and then get the coupon into RCCL (or your TA) and then more time to get it applied to your balance owed.

We weren't so lucky to start out that early - so it was a lesson learned. To get our coupon redeemed we had to pay for the final payment on our credit card. Then once the coupon was applied toward the balance due, the credit appeared on our credit card statement.

It was just a pain to have to follow up on all that credit stuff, so we'll make sure we redeem our coupons early this time. We'll use it on the Liberty!

Hope you didn't name the baby PAIDOFF! Great story of how aggravating banks can be.

Amazing that this clerk tells me how wonderful I am & I am getting upgraded to this card that spoils the person for free. Then it takes them over a week to get a letter to me that it is a LIE! So what are they doing for me, sending me an application so I can apply for the card that I don't need.

The Cruiseinfever sends me a list of perks on her RCCL card. Not on mine which had 3 items on a list on a small card with the card back in 2005. MBNA dropped all warranty extension, travel insurance, car rental insurance, etc.

So if B of A had it all on the card then they didn't send out a mailing to all the cardholders that still have MBNA cards! So that gets used for RCCL charges & the Celebrity card get used for their charges, other than that I have my AMEX & I get $100 per 7500 points.
