Fun Options with kids in Fort Lauderdale?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My family will be traveling from France to Fort Lauderdale in a few weeks for a week of R&R before embarking on the Caribbean Princess. Do any of you who live near Fort Lauderdale or have visited with children have recommendations on fun things to do with the kids (ages 8,6 and 3)? I'd also be thrilled to have recommendations on child-friendly restaurants that would still appeal to the adults in the group!

Many thanks...

Hello,

We live somewhat close to the area. These are things we have done with our 6 and 9 year olds:

1. Ft Lauderdale Museum of SCience and Discovery

2. Miami Zoo

3. Wanado City

4. Miami Sea Aquium

5. Boomers (Boca) (Games)

6. Dave and Busters (Games for Adults and children)

Here is a website that tells you some about some of the things:

Hi,

We have three kids, ages 10, 8, and 3. My parents live in Fort Lauderdale and we spend many vacations there. My kids favorite things are:

1) Everglades tour. We use Holiday Park, which is about 20 minutes west of Fort Lauderdale, but there are other companies. They take you on an airboat ride through the Everglades.

2) Wannado City. Kids get to roleplay at different professions. This is also west of downtown and is in a great mall, Sawgrass Mills.

3) Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery and Science

4) Miami Seaquarium

5) Fort Lauderdale Beach or Dania Beach. They also enjoy South Beach, in the daytime!:)

I appreciate your great suggestions. I can tell that this is going to be an excellent time. Just a few more questions:

1. When visiting the Everglades, is it important to use a tour or can we see enough on our own? We will have a rental car.

2. Do you have any favorite restaurants you'd be willing to share?

Thanks for your help!

  • 2 weeks later...

I grew up with grandparents in N. Miami Beach (very close to Ft. Lauderdale). The one thing that I remember doing every year, and we will be doing this in a few weeks with my kids, is going to Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor. It is an old fashioned ice cream parlor that has unbelieveable ice cream! Its just south of the airport on US-1. Its been around for ages, and gets better everytime.

There's also a nice flea market, Sample Road Flea market (google it) where there are tons of great shops.

Also, there is Jai Alai in Dania which is fun, or for more shopping/food, you can always go to the Hard Rock Casino in Ft. Lauderdale (or Hollywood).

Either way, you'll have a great time!

For dinner we enjoy Lulus Bait Shack at Beach Place...good food, loud music and both the folks and kids have a great time.

The Fort Lauderdale water taxi is a great way to see the area and my son loves riding on it. It is cheap and you can make a day of it by getting on and off at a couple of stops.
