El Corchito?

Just wondering if anyone has ever gone to El Corchito, which I found through the yucatantoday dot com website...According to the info there, it is an ecological preserve that is 2 KM east of Progresso's entrance. Information states that there are boat rides, fresh water pools, and walking paths. I am leaning toward a day of relaxing on a beach at Progresso, but a little time at a preserve would be nice, too....

Any comments?

OK, here's the scoop on both mangrove trips.

1) Take the free shuttle from the ship to the casa de Cultura. Walk 2 blocks south to the main square and you'll see the taxi stand. A taxi to La Ria will cost $20 pesos; to Corchito, $30 pesos. If you have a large group, talk to a van driver and negotiate a price in the range.

2) La Ria - Open every day of the year from 8 am to 7 pm. They have a small restaurant and bar, and coolers on the boats so you can bring our own beer, sodas, etc.

They have comfortable tour boats that hold a maximum of 10 people, with life jackets and an awning. A 1 1/2 hour tour is $20US per person with a minimum of 4 people. They also offer a 3 hour tour which includes fishing equipment and a chance to swim for $40US per person.

La Ria can arrange fishing trips with 12 hours notice. A maximum of 6 people can rent a fishing boat with all equipment and an experienced captain for $400US. This is a 5 hour trip.

They also have water bicycles for rent for $2US a person per half hour; Kayaks - both single ($20US an hour) and double($20US per person per hour). You can hire a guide for $20US.

La Ria can be reached at riaprogreso@gmail.com

3) Corchito - also open every day at 9 am. They have boats that will take you to a natural reserve in the mangroves with palapas, swimming, and hiking. Bathrooms and changing rooms are available. The cost is $25 PESOS per person. The boat holds a maximum of 12 people.
