rental car at miami port?

Is there a rental car place at the port of Miami? Our flight back doesn't leave until 4:20 and we thougth we could get a rental car for the day cheeper than doing a shore excursion for 4 of us and just driving to south beach or sight seeing on our own for the day and then dropping the rental car off at the airport. Has anybody done this and do you think it is a good idea?

No, there are no car rental offices for pick-up or drop off of vehicles at the Port of Miami. Avis and Hertz have nearby locations downtown, the remainder have offices by the Miami airport. Posts on these boards have said Alamo offers a shuttle.

Alamo does indeed offer a shuttle, it definitely runs on weekends, best to call about other days. Choose the Port of Miami location and use a Costco discount if you are a member. Will cost around $40 for the day. Less than 15 minutes from the time you are picked up to the rental facility.
