Why couldn't the other passengers say something? If I saw a child running or throwing rocks I would tell them to stop myself if the NCL crew did not do it. Of course the parents are just plain wrong, but someone should step in and keep safety as the first issue. I, as a parent, would have no problem if my children were doing something wrong when I was not around if someone said something.

Is this a major No-no on a ship? I follow this rule whereever I am. I don't yell at children but I have found that simply saying sternly "that is not a good idea, you need to stop it now" works.....

Here in lies the above principal which causes so much distress on a ship. A small percentage of parents let their children as young as 5-10 yrs old roam the ship without any supervision.

My last cruise I escorted a 6 year old around the pool for 2 hours looking for his parents, they were in the spa and taking a nap! A ship can be a luxurious but also very dangerous place and it will ALWAYS be the parents responsibility to supervise their children outside the program.

The cruise line can monitor, observe and advise parents of responsibility but allowing young children to roam free on their own accord is just plain negligent.

I completely agree with you. But I still say in the interest of safety, I dont see anything wrong with correcting children. For the record, my young children are never out of my sight, my point was more if my 14 year old was doing something that he shouldn't be ( and of course we discuss appropriate behavior before they go anywhere, but 14 is 14 and they dont have the years of wisdom adults do) I would encourage and appreciate anyone to say anything to him. 5-10 year old children unsupervised is as you said negligent.
