On and off privileges in San Juan?

We are on the Destiny, November 25 and would love to be able to get on the ship relatively early (like 2:00 pm) then get off and wander around San Juan? Is this doable or is it once you are on, you are on for good that day?

Yes, you get get off the ship after you have gotten all settled in and go explore San Juan.

Actually, if you're flying in the day before that's a great time to explore Old San Juan. That's what we did last fall. It was wonderful. There were no crowds at all. Then the next day when we boarded the ship we just relaxed.

We arrived a day early and went to Old San Juan near the fort and the locals were flying kites and it was amazing to see how skilled some of them were. They sell kites there and we bought one and flew it for a few hours and after we were done gave it to a little local boy and his family. It was a lot of fun.
