Silken Diagonal Barcelona

Recommended Posts

We have booked this hotel thru Celebrity...has anyone stayed there? Is it nice and is it near Las Ramblas or any attractions?

The reviews on Tripadvisor are quite good http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d518349-Reviews-Silken_Diagonal_Barcelona-Barcelona_Catalonia.html, but it is a few miles from Placa Catalunya (at the top of Las Ramblas).

Thanks for your help...after going to the website, we decided to book the Continental Palacete that has been mentioned on the boards alot...we got 2 rooms for less than 1 room with Celebrity...just not the transfers. Also, wanted to be closer to the action of Los Ramblas. Take Care!

I think you'll be much happier with the location of the Palacete (we stayed there for 2 nights pre-cruise). The 24 hour snacks/drinks are a nice bonus. There is a taxi stand just across the street from the hotel, so it will be very easy to take a taxi from the hotel to the airport.

I also read the train station was near the hotel - do you know how far it is? Would it be hard to carry luggage on the train? Probably much easier with the taxi......anything you liked the best in Barcelona or anyplace you ate that was good but not real expensive? I will be with my 80 year old mother and 55 year old sister.....so no wild drinking places.....thanks for your answers!

I didn't see the train station, although we used the metro (subway) and also used the Airport bus to get to our hotel from the airport. I think a taxi would be a better option with your mother & luggage .... I was surprised how reasonably priced taxis are. From the Palacete to the port it was about $13 E incl. tip for two of us. (Probably slightly higher with 3 people as there are added charges for extra people & luggage.)

Our favourites in Barcelona were Gaudi's works - Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, Parc Guell, Casa Batllo. Strolling down Las Ramblas is interesting and just off to the left of it (as you head towards the water) is the Bari Gotic area. An elevator ride to the top of the Cathedral provides amazing views of the city.

A popular restaurant is Les Quinze Nits - low prices, good food and a nice restaurant. There is always a line up, but if you get there around 7:30 (I think it opens at 8) you should be able to get in when it opens. Standing in line is not bad as it's in a nice square, you'll probably meet others to talk to and there will probably be 'street performers'. It's in Placa Reial http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.com/albums-en/placa-reial/index.html, just off Las Ramblas. A google search on Les Quinze Nits will bring up lots of sites with info ... here's one to start with: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Spain/Catalunya/Barcelona-274654/Restaurants-Barcelona-Les_Quinze_Nits-BR-1.html

What a nice city to end your cruise in :)

I am so glad i stumbled across this post. I will be spending 2 days pre-cruise in barcelona in july and was looking for some hotel ideas that would be central and easy to get to the port. Is the placete hotel close to the port and would you know how much a cab would be to the port from that hotel? This is my first cruise and it is my honeymoon so i welcome any information.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding .... and on the med cruise ... great choice for a honeymoon!

I don't think there are any hotels that are really close to the port.... most people stay at ones in the area of Las Ramblas. Continental Palacete is at the top of Las Ramblas, and is close to a metro station.

Here's a link to their website: http://www.hotelcontinental.com/home_palacete.htm

and reviews on tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187497-d274118-Reviews-Hotel_Continental_Palacete-Barcelona_Catalonia.html

A cab from the hotel to the port was approx. 13E including tip for DH and I.

A suggestion: write down the name of your ship and the pier for your cab driver as not all of them speak English.

Enjoy your cruise!
