Laptops aboard NCL Majesty / WiFi access?

Recommended Posts

I read with interest the thread on the subject of WiFi hot spots aboard Majesty.

Can anyone enlighten me on the rules / regulations / requirements for bringing aboard my laptop? I believe that previous cruise ships I’ve been on prohibited this.

Is there an authorization process and/or fee in order to make wireless connections on board?

Thanks,

You can bring your laptop on the Majesty, no problem. If you're already set for wireless you just have to set up your account and pay for a plan. It's 75 cents a minute as you go, but you can get cheaper prices by buying a block of minutes for the week. There's an Internet Cafe with a manager (set hours that are in the Freestyle Daily) in case you need help getting started. There are hot spots in the Cafe, obviously, and I think on most of that deck. I found a hot spot in the hallway outside of the Royal Observatory which was near my cabin so I used that one a lot. Good luck and have a great cruise. :)

You certainly can take your laptop on your cruise. For a cruiseline to prohibit laptops, they might as well prohibit digital cameras. Totally impossible!!

My husband needs to keep in touch once or twice with his office using his remote desktop. Does anyone know if he will get good reception on the ship to use it, either on our laptop or in the ship's internet cafe? Need answer urgently we leave on the Star 4/7 in TWO DAYs! Thanks!:D

I brought my laptop last year on the Majesty. I got great reception in or near the internet Cafe. I also had some luck in my cabin if i left my door open about 1 foot. I was on deck 6 next to the casino.

All of deck 5 should be a hotspot, there are other places too. Be aware that the satellite connection will be pretty slow, but workable. There have been reports of people using it for VOIP calls (like vonage, skype, yahoo messanger etc..) so there should be enough bandwidth for remote desktop.

Would I get better a better connection for my remote desktop if I brought and used my own laptop, or would I get the same or better if I used the ship's internet cafe? I'm trying to avoid bringing my laptop is at all possible.

Thank you all so much for your responses.!:D
