racepoint Posted February 10, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2007 I'm here doing the "document dance" tonight. Just receieved our package of baggage tags and various pamphlets, including the shore excursions book. Prior to this, I was just about all set to go out and buy snorkeling equipment for the family and Page 13 caught my attention where it says "Snorkeling Equipment - rent by the day or by the cruise." I cannot find a price anywhere for the cost of rental for the 7 days. Has anybody done this recently and can offer their insight??

It's not necessary to rent from the cruise ship unless you want to snorkel in the ship's pool.:) Every snorkel tour, either booked thru the ship or independently, will provide you with snorkel gear as part of the tour cost. The snorkel boat soaks the masks/tubes in a bleach bath. I prefer to use my own gear, but if you have cost concerns and don't expect to snorkel past this cruise, then use the tour operator's equipment. I've never known nor heard of anyone having a reaction or becoming ill after using rental gear. Of course, if your thinking about beach snorkeling sans fees, that's another matter. You can buy cheap snorkel equipment at discount outlets. Just be sure the mask fits properly. If you're new to snorkeling, lurk on the Scuba and Snorkeling message board. You'll find lots of good tips there. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
