Train from Barcelona to Madrid

Recommended Posts

We fly, it's cheaper and faster. We flew with Vueling, but there is also Spanair and Air Europa. The cheapest flights are about €30 and take about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Fares change according to sales, so the price can go up or down based on how many people purchase on any specific day.

Renfe.es is the website of the Spanish National Train company.

All trains except for the one overnight is an Alvia or an Altaria. They take 5 hours and it's €63.60 in tourist class or €98.50 in first class. The Altaria at 11H30 takes 4.5 hours.

The overnight train is a Costa Brava and costs €37.10 and €49.10. Bunkbeds are €47.60

Dear friends:

Greetings from Barcelona.

Right now it takes between 4 and 5 hours (and on some test trains about 3.5 hours).

By year-end 2007, the high speed train service will be fully operational between Madrid and Barcelona and the train is expected to take 2 hours and 45 minutes. This new train is expected to take away up to 50% of air passengers. However, until the new high speed train is fully functional, it is still cheaper and faster to fly.

Even when the high-speed train becomes fully operational, it is expected to be more expensive than flying, but less stressful and pleasant on the whole.

Kind regards,

Gunther and Uta

Thank you all for your relpy, CruisinGerman, I will be in Barcelona the begining of July, do you know if there will be any kind of High Speed service to Madrid by then.

Thanks for your help.

Tony

As Ghunter said, less ann less stressful by train. The flight is faster but don't forget that airports are out from city center and the time you have to be there before the plane.

Train is center to center and you only have to be just in time to take the train.

The high speed train will not work until last, last in the year.

Bea
