B&Ccruisers Posted February 16, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2007 Trying to figure out which is better.. When it comes to using the ATM's is it more reasonable to use your debit card or if I had a VISA gift card loaded and retreived money or does it make any difference at all. Some say the VISA gift card is "safer" if lost. What do you think?
LisaV6 Posted February 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 17, 2007 Not sure why the VISA gift card would be safer, as the debit card needs a PIN...best bet is to check with your bank as to which method carries the highest fees.
Rare whogo Posted February 19, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 19, 2007 I have not checked out the gift card. The AAA Visa Travelmoney card was about the most expensive way to get foreign currency. Their foreign currency conversion rate was 7%. There were numerous other fees involved as well. Most ATM cards charge 1% to 3% on foreign currency and an ATM fee of $0 to $5. Check with your bank.
