guntheros Posted February 22, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2007 I bought my first snorkel gear. $40 at Sam's Club. It includes the fins, very easily adjustable mask and dry snorkel with a carrying bag. It is made by body glove. We don't cruise until October, so we'll be practicing as much as possible in the mean time. I know it's definately not the best gear you can buy, but it will good enough, right? caribbean dreams Posted February 22, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2007 We bought ours at Costo and out kids at Target about 3 years ago, and 4 cruises later, they still are great. I would suggest that you go to a sporting goods store and buy some no fog, it is not expensive and it really helps the lenses from foging up. foneguy Posted February 23, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 23, 2007 yes that is fine for snorkling, as the no no fog goes...just wash the mask with toothpaste, that will act as no fog, and will clean the oily resin on the mask from manufacturing, just use a dab with your finger, and rinse. if you feel something slick do it again, then let air dry and all will be fine have fun

Tallens Posted February 27, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 27, 2007 That equipment will do fine for you. Be sure to clean the inside of the lens as the other poster suggested. You can clean the film off with toothpaste and this will help with defogging. You can buy defog to use before each time or make your own with 50/50 baby shampoo/H2O. I personally find it is much easier and cheaper to just use spit. Have fun with the snorkeling, you will love it.
tearsforfears Posted March 15, 2007 #6 Share Posted March 15, 2007 Snorkel sets are the best value for your money. Here's a good Guide to Snorkel Sets
Aloha_Jackie Posted March 16, 2007 #7 Share Posted March 16, 2007 the equipment you have is fine. Dont worry about having expensive gear. As long as it fits well and you are comfortable while wearing it, thats the most important thing. Defogger is great/optimal. Toothpaste is nice when you run out and makes the mask so minty for the next time. Hotel shampoo will work in a pinch, rinse your stuff when you get back and it will last longer. If you havent spent a ton of cash on equipment - you wont be upset if it is lost, stolen off the boat/beach/other (God forbid), or finally rots and you have to get another set. Have fun! :D
