IMCSICK Posted February 25, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2007 Total newbie here! From what I've read, it sounds like you receive a plastic I.D. with your picture that also serves as the cabin key. Is this correct? Does it come on some kind of lanyard? If not, would it be beneficial to buy one before we leave home? Is there a way to attach the card to the lanyard, or should we buy the ones that have a plastic pouch with a zip-top? I am concerned about my kids losing theirs.
johnql Posted February 25, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 25, 2007 You've got it pretty much right - the sea pass (or sign & sail card) is a plastic card the size of a credit card. However, it does NOT have your photo on it. They do take a photo of everyone at check-in and the photo is stored and associated with your sea pass. Whenever you disembark the ship, the card is swiped at the gangway, and the staff member doublechecks the photo that pops up on their computer screen to match it to the person who is actually disembarking. When you reboard the ship later, they do the same in reverse. This way, they know exactly who has returned to the ship and who's still on shore. The sea pass is used to charge all of your shipboard expenses, other than some miscellaneous cash tips. (You can also use your own cash in the casino.) It also serves as your cabin key. The card does not come with a lanyard. You can bring your own (the kind that has a pouch) or you can punch a hole in the sea pass and thread a chain through it. I believe the ship's staff has a heavy-duty hole-puncher available at the main desk in the atrium. Hope this helps.
