How to spend time at San Juan airport

We will be disembarking in San Juan in April and using the Princess Cruise transfer to the airport. I don't know what time we will get off the ship but our flight does not leave until 4 PM. Will we have a long time of doing nothing at the airport? Or will it take a long time to get through security?

We just returned on the 18th from San Juan with a 3:43 flight on Delta. We checked our luggage at pier. Also got boarding passes which meant all we had to do at airport was go thru security. Then dressed in shorts (packed a change of clothes in carryon) went to Isla Verde beach. Arrived about 9:30. Rented loungers for $4 and soaked up the rays until 1:15. Vendor there has cold Corona for $2. It is only a mile from airport. Got to airport, ate lunch and then cleared security. 3rd time out of San Juan and most painless yet. One thing, the security line for our concourse was very long. Delta rep told us to go to adjacent concourse wher line was about 5 minutes and then take concourse connector that was beyond security line. way less stress. I think we stayed in front of the San Juan water and beach resort. they allowed us to use restrooms.:)

We had 3:05 flight when leaving San Juan after our Serenade cruise.

They had a very different disembarking process than we had used before. In the compass they listed "groups" 1-2-3 etc... by what time your flight leaves. Then you leave your cabin by 8 a.m. and wait for your "group #" to be called. (Colored tags on luggage only used for finding it after customs)

Well - this process did not work very well as no one was "checking" flight tickets and everyone pretty much just got in line whenever..... long long line to get off the ship. So we just hung back and didnt stress over getting off quickly (and let those with early flights have a little better chance of making their flight).

We got off @ 10:15 - arrived at airport @ 12:30 - checked in (that was new experience as they have a unique system in sj) then spent a while in the lounge area and played Texas Hold Em until we noticed there was no (yes no) line for security checkpoint and then went to gate and boarded.

Anyway - my point is - take your time..... don't stress about being the first one off and have a leisurely LAST DAY.

We also did the airline check-in on the ship which left us bag free to tour. Found a great tour/taxi just outside the terminal. The driver showed us some of the sites, took us to the fort, to lunch at a restaurant owned by a major league baseball player. Had a great lunch, got the sampler tray and it fed the four of us with some leftover, think it was $18.50 plus the drinks. Wish I had taken this guy's cell number. It was a black Lincoln Town Car............... business must be good, charged us $40/hr for the four of us and delivered us to the airport in plenty of time for check-in.
