Pre-Paid Cash Cards

I have been considering using AM-EX pre-paid cards instead of the travelers checks I have always used. What are the advantages/disadvantages of using these? I understand there will be a 20 to 30 dollar initial charge for loading these cards (2 cards for me & DW) is it worth the effort?

The cost of loading is similar to that of buying travelers checks so if you are planning to buy them.. it is wash cost wise. It is more convienent than signing checks. Now do you need them, probably not if you have a regular credit card registered with the pursers desk.

Maybe, but I consider these yet one more tool in our arsenal of weapons that provide the security we need to travel safely.

I am a big believer in spreading your loot around among several sources and physically splitting those sources so that if one person gets taken out with by a sniper or pirate then the other person is not left high and dry without any money for booze.
