On Board Credit

Can someone please tell me what I need to be watching for to get on board credit?

I was booked on the Triumph out of NO in November. They decided to leave the Triumph in Miami so I booked the Fantasy out of NO instead. They gave a $50 OBC to rebook on the Fantasy. I paid for a 4A interior room on the Riveria deck and they upgraded me because I am a past cruiser to the Empress Deck using DP3. When checking the prices to see if I can get an OBC what catagory and deck do I check to see if it is less than what I originally paid? Last November this same cruise dropped about $100 below what I paid for this cruise. Do I check Empress deck interior room and if it is less than what I paid call Carnival or do I check interior room on Riveria as I was originally booking before the upgrades for a price difference? Does this make any sense?
